Hi ladies,

Sorry to ask again.

As mentioned we like Sam as one of our boys name options. We really love Samuel but as our surname is Jackson, we wanted to avoid any association with any famous person IYKWIM. So, because there is the actor Samuel L Jackson we chose Sam.

BUT, DH keeps going back to Samuel but I still don't like the association - what do you all think? My arguement is that he'll probably be called Sam whether we name him Sam or Samuel.

Thanks

Lisa

Ultimately it's up to you and DH but personally i would always give a child the longer name, but thats my opinion.

for example, i think if she turns out to be a boy i'd call her Jacob officially, but i'll always call "him" Jake.

If i decide to call her Tally her birth certificate will say her name is Tallulah.

I want her to have as many options about names as possible so this is why id choose the longer.

Having siad that my cousin is Sam not Samuel and i couldnt imagine him bieng a Samuel, it doesnt suit him

i guess you have the other side of the coin tho that people might think that his full name is Samual even tho its just Sam. So they could still my the association.

for example my OH is just Bobby, but whenever he meets anyone new they always assume that it is short for Robert when it isnt :)

Ive rambled now and probly not helped lol

Thanks ladies.

Can I ask, do you immediately associate the name "Samuel Jackson" with the actor ?

L x

i dont think i do without the L ;) prehaps try it out on your parents or friends etc coz i now i think i think coz youve already mentioned it... if that makes sense

Without the L i dont hink id associate it tbh, but then again i am utterly useless at celeb names etc. I really like the name Jade but everyone i mention it to goes "oh makes me think of Jade Goody" lol.

Like the others have said, I don't asociate it with the actor without the L. Personally I would go for Samuel and then use Sam from there.

the only thing i found was i have a son called Tom, not Thomas just Tom and the ammount of people that assume he is Thomas and it really annoys me, he even has a row at school with a teacher when he was about 7 as they said he was Thomas so i had to go and put them in there place, anyway the point im making is if you have sam i can bet he will get called samuel anyway.
I wouldnt worry about the famous one if i were you.

I don't make the association without the 'L'. Just don't make his middle name Leroy and you'll be okay!

(Btw I had to google what the L stands for  )
