Hi -- Doc thinks it might be .. mittelschmerz

Was wondering if anyone else has very bad mittelschmerz pain...
I get the pain every month around the time of ovulation.

Does anyone know when someone gets this pain, did you in fact already ovulate... and if you have any home remedies to pass along for the pain.

Thanks again,

Hey JLee,

This has just happened to me for the first time this month. I have been doing lots of reading up on it and it think it might be the same thing.

I did use OPK's for a period of 6 days and was getting a defo line, but not as dark as the original line, and over this same period i started bleeding and having what i describe as mild period style cramps, twinges in boobs. i then noticed that as the line got fainter, the bleeding stopped. and now is i use an OPK, the line is barely there.....

Never happened to me before..........

Mittelschmerz is believed to have a variety of causes:

The swelling of follicles in the ovaries prior to ovulation. While only one or two eggs mature to the point of being released, a number of follicles grow during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle (non-dominant follicles atrophy prior to ovulation). Because follicles develop on both sides, this theory explains mittelschmerz that occurs simultaneously on both sides of the abdomen.
The ovaries have no openings; at ovulation the egg breaks through the ovary's wall. This may make ovulation itself painful for some women.
At the time of ovulation, blood or other fluid is released from the ruptured egg follicle. This fluid may cause irritation of the abdominal lining.
After ovulation, the fallopian tubes contract, which may cause pain in some women.
At ovulation, this pain may be related to smooth muscle cell contraction in the ovary as well as in its ligaments. These contractions are in response to an increased level of prostaglandin F2-alpha mediated by the surge of leutinizing hormone (LH).

thanks ladies... very helpful.
all i know is that it hurts so bad that i can not walk....

Doc told me to take Advil an (anti inflamtory) for the pain.

I get this awful pain during ovulation and about a day or two afterwards. My GP seems to think it's quite common but there are different severities of pain. I have an internal ultra scan next month to see if there are any problems so i will keep you updated.

I usually get pretty bad pains at ovulation, usually in my right side. A really sharp pain that lasts a few hours usually. Funnily enough this month I havent had it, instead Ive had cramps all over. Hopefully thats a good sign

My Mum was telling me yesterday that she called the Doctor out in the middle of the night once cos she thought she was having appendicitis. She felt very foolish when he told her she was just ovulating.

Hi Loola --

Thanks for the reply.
Yes.. I have been only getting the pain on my right side only.
I guess... some of us are lucky, i guess!

How odd - I only get pains in my right side too, in fact I have them right now. And not every month.

I had a scan to check for cysts when in my mid 20's as the pains were quite bad. For me they generally last a few days and can be excrutiating. I find stupid things like walking downstairs makes it hurt more.

Hi Claire --

That sucks!....
The nurse called this morning to have me take an altrasound at 2:20 today.
So we will see. Crossing my fingers, hoping nothing unnormal comes up.

Thanks again,
Jlee

Are you mid cycle now? Hopefully the scan will rule out anything like a cyst and its just the pain. Let us know how it went for you.

It is awful, I don't get AF cramps so I'm odd in that ovulation is more painful than AF

Ok... my results all came out negative! yessssss. fewffff =)

Negative preg both urine and blood test =(
but negative for urinary track infec.
and negative on both ultrasounds. (internal and external)

Everything seems to be normal. I guess, that leads to just the middlesheltz thing a majig... sorry forget how to pronounce it.

But they did say that they found it odd that once I had to empty my bladder for the second internal altrasound, my bladder remained full. it was supposed to shrink bc and it never did...

well, seeing my family doc on monday. i will def. mention it to her.

So.... looks like we just may be the lucky ladies that feel ovulation... painful ovulation that is! ADVIL ADVIL ADVIL...
