missed a pill, mini pill, pregnancy worries.

My lo is now 11 weeks, ive been using the mini pill cerelle just under one month. Im EBf but for some reason ive already had 2 periods since LO arrived. Strange as with my two other children i never got a period untill aftrr 6 months. When i had my post natal appointment even the doctor found it strange that i had already started getting periods again.

Anyway my question is this, how effective is the mini pill? 2 week ago, the day after my suspected period ended, on thursday evening me and my husband got intimate for the first time since having Lo. I took the pill as usual that night. But stupid me forgot to take the pill the next day (friday night) and only realised when i opened my drawer to take the pill on saturday night. Now i know these pills you can take them upto 12 hours late. But mine was 24hrs late. It mentions about using an extra barrier method if you miss a pil. But what if you already had intercourse and missed the pill afterwards? Seen as sperm can live for a week?. To add to my worries last week i had cramping on my left hand side all week and then this friday woke up to some light pink spotting and nothing since. Terrified it could be implantation, (hoping its just the pill).

I feel worried and stupid for missing the pill but i have so much going on in the house and with 2 other children to look after i totally forgot about the pill. Im also not used to taking pills because i had a coil before.
My only hope now is that if it was a period i had im very unlikely to become pregnant the day after it ends

You could have got the morning after pill when you realised you forgot a day. You are more fertile when you miss a single pill than when you come off a packet because your hormones surge and can cause an egg to be released. I don’t know what your chances of being pregnant are, but keep us updated.

I always kept my pill in the cutlery drawer with the teaspoons so I would remember it with my morning coffee! Maybe get used to the pull out method as well as taking your pill if you don’t want to get coil/implant fitted x

You have a smaller window than 12 hours on the mini pill. The combined has a larger window
I know this because I got a bfp yesterday whilst using the mini pill because I'm shit at remembering and have only been on it since Xmas as I was taken off my combined pill due to migraines
With the combined I just took it whenever in the day it didn't matter and have done so for 4 years. 3 months on the mini pill and I've caught

Depends on the person, I’d always miss pills and wouldn’t get caught, (2 a packet-ish) so I personally wouldn’t worry, but can understand why you would as obviously they tell you how fertile you are after having a LO. Hope it work outs x

Oh jeez, i still havent been able to get a test because of the snow. makes me worry even more now seen as missing a pill makes egg release. But im exclusively breastfeeding which i thought would stop it. I dont know what to think anymore. But since i had just finished a bleed i thought i might have a chance not to be. I dont know about morning after pills. Never needed one & it was a weekend also.

I’m sure you will be fine. Just need to be more cautious in the future if you definitely don’t want any more kiddos. The morning after pill is really accessible- you can buy it from the chemist for about £20 if you can’t get to the doctors. I don’t know how it goes with breastfeeding though. Try not to worry about it. X

I dont think the mini pill is for me, i might have to get another coil fitted although it did give me hideous long heavy periods. Why do things have to be so complicated for us women. Roll on the male pill invention & coil lol

There are lots of other contraceptions, I thought the ring was quite a good one or the implant?

The mini pill also makes your cm a less habitable place for sperm so even if you have ovulated it probably wouldn’t conceive x

Oh i really hope so! Funny you should mention CM because for the last few days i seem to be having alot of thick pale yellow CM. Not sure ifits because of the pill or not? I know its nothing like an infection as its not smelly or itchy, and i have experienced this before but not to this extent. Im sure i actually had it while i was pregnant and apparantly is a sign of been pregnant? Oh all this stuff makes me paranoid.
Whats the ring btw? Isit the same as a cap? I used to use a cap before but hubby ended up been allergic to the spermacide. Also its abit hard and messy to insert.
Also have had the impant, i used to bleed continuesly with it. Ended up getting it removed.

The ring goes around your cervix for 21 days I think and releases oestrogen and progesterone to prevent pregnancy (obviously) then you take it out for a period and put a new one in after.

You’re probably just symptom spotting because you’re paranoid, you’re breastfeeding, taking the rest your pills, been bleeding, I’d say it’s very unlikely you’re pregnant x

Yeah im a born worrier, i just cant help it LoL. Yeah i should just relax, ive just read too many stories about people getting pregnant using the mini pill, even correctly. And the ring ide never heard of before, sounds okay, but why do most of these methods insist on pumping us up with artificial hormones with a tonne of side effects. Ive come to a decision of stopping this pill, hopefully ill have a bleed after which will put me at ease. And il take a trip to the doctors to discuss a different method.
And not to worry, because i wont be putting myself at risk while off the pill. No way ho zay!

Good luck, I came off the pill a week ago and was due af on Saturday! No such luck, still waiting! Hate that pill, it’s the only pill I can take though as my mum had breast cancer before menopause so I’m not allowed to take oestrogen going to get the coil after the next one! Or just go straight to having a 3rd ha x

Took at test a week ago. Was negative. Been off the pill 10 days now and no period as of yet. Still getting the excess cm. Been feeling extremely tired for a week, just like my eyes are going to shut all day long. Not sure if im coming down with something. And also have started feeling sick again at the beginning of breastfeeding sessions.
