i usually breast feed a little bit to take the edge off the hungar then give solids then breast feed again. :)

Yea i give olivia her milk 1st other wise she will scream the house down!

I usually let her take as much as she wants (if i take it out before she screams), she takes 5-6oz!

I then leave her for 30 mins before i give her food otherwise she throws it up!

i give food with juice :?

then that replaces his milk????

should i be doing it different???

eg.

8 am 9oz milk

11am ready break with juice

2pm 9oz milk

5pm dinner with juice 9oz milk

8pm 9oz milk

i just dont imagin milk to quench his thirst with a spoon feed?

5.30pm Dinner with juice

7.30 Night bottle if he wants it

I have been giving Olivia a drink of juice after her spoon feed, she has her spoon feed about half an hour after milk because most of the time she drinks all the milk 1st!

I give her half hour for her milk to settle and for her to bring her wind up then she has her spoon feed but she wont take any more milk so i give her a bit of juice just she doesn't drink a lot but i always worry that milk wont quench her thirst!

I am i doing this right?

I know we all have our different ways of doing things!

This is what i did with Brooke

We have a similar routine to Sarahe,

7am Milk first (usually 4oz) then cereal
10.00am Rice cake & juice
11.30am 190g jar and juice (just moved him to the bigger jar)
2pm Fruit pot & juice
3.30pm Milk (usually 6oz)
6pm smaller jar 120g food plus finger food item such as toast & juice
7.30pm milk (usually 4-6oz)

We have just moved charlie to the next stage jars as he loves being able to chew his food and we keep the smaller jars for tea-time. Think we have the balance right now but it is trial and error as to when and how to feed them. We tried milk before but he drank too much, milk after but his food was bolted that fast it didnt touch the sides and then he didnt want his milk and have now moved to slowly reducing the milk although he loves his milk before his breakfast but would probably finish the bottle if we let him.

My tip (works a treat with Charlie) is to take the bottle off him half way through and give him a spoon quick so he shoves that in his mouth and I then have my spoon and bowl of food ready for when he realises there was no food on his spoon!!! Distraction is always a good bet!

harley is terrible with spoon feeds he is happier having milk all day

We always gave Jamie a mouthful of milk first then his food then the rest of his milk after.
We saw our H/V yesterday and have now stopped his lunchtime bottle of milk. I have been thinking about it for a while now but didn't know when to do it, so when the H/V said he doesn't need it anymore I decided to stop, So now his routine is -

08.30 (ish, depends when he wakes up) - 260mls milk & porridge (I use the milk for his porridge which usually leaves about 18omls for him to drink)

12.30 - lunch (veg, bread, dairylea, breadsticks, sandwiches, scrambled egg with spaghetti hoops! & some fruit etc that sort of thing)

17.00 - dinner (homemade veg, pasta, fish, or recipes from the Annabel Karmel book etc)

19.00 - 260mls milk

To keep him quiet during the day I sometimes give him melba toast or a breadstick, a piece of fruit etc to shut his screeeching up for a bit!

He has watered down juice or water with his lunch & dinner & sometimes a few mouthfulls during the day (I got told off for giving him juice by the H/V  - she said we can give him juice but it all depends on how hell bent we are on rotting his teeth  she very nearly got a smack!!!!!)

Nicki looking at what Jamie eats im worried :?

Harley has 5 9oz botles a day and about 1 jar of food

am i still treating him like a baby :|
maybe its why he is 21lb

what is more fattening? milk or spoon feeds?

by what age should babies be only having 1 bottle of milk?

I was going to ask this question too, i am confused as ellis is heeving at the min and throwing his bottle back up!!?? xxxx

I am worried too now.... Oliver still wont take much solids.

porriage and apple, milk and water (8.00 ish)
Milk (10 ish)
Milk (12 ish )

Veg 1.30 (if he will take it) milk after
Milk (330ish)
Veg (530ish) (If he will take it), milk after
He is not interested in solid food, usaully ends in tears! (mine mainly)

loads of boobie before bed and during night!

As far as i'm aware babies won't want solids much if they have alot of milk. Milk is food. When solid are introduced the amount of milk they have slowley decreases (hence weaning!)

Dionne, milk will be more fattening than fruit & veg. In my opinion hun Harley is having too much milk, try dropping the dinner time milk & give him more solids, its not long before he will have his bottle before bed, see how he gets on.

Jadie it sounds like the same thing as Dionne. Try reducing the amount of milk Oliver's having, he will then be hungrier for solids.

Dionne I think they should be on just 1 bottle a day by the time they are one but I guess everyones different.

Do what feels best for you

the last couple of days Harleys has not been so interested in his milk. he tends to bite the teat but im wondering if its because hes just cut teeth?

he is poorly at the mo and today he had a 9oz bottle at 7am and 3 spoonfulls of weatabix at 6pm  hes not interested poor thing, but im not worried as i no its only because hes not well :( he is drinking plenty of water though.

but from next week im going to try and get in a routine now. as we have never had one and i just go with the flow and if im out for the day i will just give milk and not bother with spoon feed. im not a fan of routines but i must try and make a set time for solids maybe that will help
but once he is better im going to start trying different things till he is happy.

its Hard work aint it Jadie hope things get easier son
Harley will scoff rusks & ready break.
but im dont want him to get in bad habbits it was a nightmare with Dior

colby is slightly different

7.30 am 8oz milk

11 am 1 weetabix with 6oz milk

2.30 pm 1 small jar pureed fruit with 3 oz juice followd by a rusk to chew on (she has 2 teeth at the bottom and cutting ones at the top so think it justfeels nice on her gums but most of the rusk ends up on the floor  )

4pm 1 large jar with 5oz milk

5.30pm 3 oz juice

8pm 8oz milk and off to bed by 9pm

last time she was weighed she was 14lbs 6oz
she is getting weighed and measured again next thursday but they seem happy with what shes having and her weight seems to be fine for her frame ect.
