Might be a silly question

But I was under the impression that there's only like a few days a month where you can get pregnant because you only release 1 egg a cycle.

But when you look online it still says you can get pregnant anytime, but if your egg has been released and left unfirtilised then surely you can't get pregnant for the rest of your cycle? My other half is convinced that you can get pregnant anytime but when I did research to prove him wrong it was all vert contradictory.....im 99% sure I'm right, but still I read too much, research too much so just let me know I'm right please haha

I'll tell you what I've always thought right but I'm sure someone will correct if I've been wrong all this time haha

sperm can live for up to 7 days, so if you ovulate anywhere in those 7 days there's a chance of pregnancy. however, once released an egg is only good for about 24h, after that it deteriorates and won't be fertilized

some people will suggest you can get pregnant anytime because you might OV earlier or later and theres still a tiny chance of pregnancy even 7 days after sex

I hope this makes sense

You cannot get pregnant anytime! You have fertile window. Sperm tend to live for 2-3 days depending on the weather. You can ovulate in theory any time during the month - some women early and some late - but it will probably be fairly regular for you. I recommend temping and opks. You have a menstrual phase, a fertile phase, and then a luteal phase. You need to know when the fertile phase is as that helps when TTC. You egg will only live for 24 hours and the sperm need to be in there already really.

But if you can dtd every other day it doesn't matter.

I think for contraception purposes it says in theory you can get pregnant any time of the month, but for TTC purposes you need to narrow it down as it is extremely unlikely that you will get pregnant any time of the month. Not only will the egg have gone but your CM will be the kind that literally kills sperm. Plus your cervix will be closed.

This book is awesome - Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.
