I have been prescribed this due to GD but it says on the leaflet to not take if pregnant. The diabetic midwife never mentioned this so I'm guessing it's safe??

I have rang the hospital and I'm awaiting a call back. I'm just a little confused as I was just given the tablets with no explanation.

I doubt they will ring now seeing as the clinic number says they are only available till 16:30. It seems to be the tablet given for GD but just wish she had told me to ignore the info leaflet!

Lolie14 metformin are perfectly safe hun , I have taken them in both pregnancies as I have type 2 diabetes , I have to take 2 tablets after my breakfast and 2 after evening meal plus insulin , in certain cases a consultant will prescribe metformin to those who have fertility problems , hope this puts your mind at ease x

Thank you Cossie! I have to take one tablet with my evening meal. They have said my morning fasting reading is higher than 5.5 twice a week so want to stop it before it starts anything. Just concerns me that I'm on this for just a slightly high reading... But I guess they know what they're doing!

They would have put you on it due to that slight increase in sugar readings because as your pregnancy progresses your sugar levels will raise higher due to the baby demand , if your sugar levels run higher then a normal person your at an increased risk of having a larger baby , hence why they tend to induce you earlier if you have gd / diabetes but that will also depend on the size of the baby and your over all sugar control. my first daughter weighed 7lbs 2ozs and I was induced at 35 weeks , my second which I'm currently pregnant with was weighing 5lbs 5ozs 1 week ago at 32 weeks which by the consultants calculations will be bigger then my first , I'm due to see them on Wednesday for another scan and to get an induction date.

Have they said you will be having more scans due to gd ? I have to have a scan every month up until 28 weeks and then its every couple of weeks to check the growth.

I'm currently 33+2 and had a scan at 32 weeks in which baby was estimated at 4lb 4oz which seems to be normal. I will be scanned again at 36 weeks. They have never mentioned inducing me early, but will ask them about it when they get back to me.
