Meralgia Paresthetica - update - i was right!!!!! lol

well i went to see midwife but the normal one was off so we had a different one, and i told her about it, and she said "i can't do anything you'll have to see your doctor", so i told her the name of what i think it is, Meralgia paresthetica, and she said, "no point in self disgnosing because it could be something completely different".

anyway i didnt like her one bit and couldnt wait to get out.
got in to see the doctor at 10.40, and i shown him the name and he said spot on!
so i was right after all, and he said if you wasn't pregnant there are loads of things to get rid of it but the only thing you can do is stick it out, take paracetamols, and put an ice pack on your hip to stop the nerve being inflamed in ur thigh.

so i gotta stick it out :( but at least i know its nothing serious :)

Stupid horrible hateful woman just peed off you know more than her. Silly moo.

Pleased it's diagnosed.....sorry there is nothing they can do

Well done DR KIMBO!! hehe

Least you know its nothing serious, shame nothing can be done for it but least u know it will be gone when baby is born :)

my doctor is a dish too  8) 8)
you can see all the old women in the waiting room look straight at him when he comes out to call your name, and they all gossip about him hehe
he's a stunner, and i had him touching my legs.... i had to tell him to stop it and try again in 4 months when ive had the baby, but he wouldnt stop feeling me up :rotfl: :fib: :fib: :fib: :fib: :fib: :fib: :fib:

Hiya x

I have this tooo and its soo painful! I am just soo pleased to have found someone else with as its soo uncommon.

I totally sympathise - mine is worse when I have been on my feet for long periods and I have hypersensitivity to cold / hot.

I was just wondering - are you managing to work with it? Did the Dr sign you off ? or give you anything to help you sleep?

I am 25 + 5 and a nurse on a busy peads ward and am finding it unbearable some days to be on my feet and was wondering how you are getting on?

25 + 5

Have you been referred to a physio? My physio has been brillaint - Your MW can refer you very easily.

Shameless bounce as you are the only pregnant person I have ever heard of that has this and I am interested to know if you are managing to work as I am feeling like I am flaking a bit.

hi sorry i've only just noticed this.
my doctor said theres nothing he can give me or do while pregnant, and it's just one of them things in pregnancy he said.
i've learnt how to stop it happening so much though in bed!
it seems to be when i put weight on a certain part of my hip/back, so if i'm laid on my side, i have to stay straight.
if i move or lean back a bit, then thats when it happens.

so when im getting out of bed i have to do sit up sideways which is bl00dy hard with a big bump lol
it's a certain point in my back that sets it off, so i have to avoid putting weight on that area.

also, the meralgia nerve runs theough your groin, just where your thigh meets your hip, so try putting an ice pack right there before you go to bed, and it stops the nerve been so inflamed.

sorry i couldnt help much

Thanks for the response - Its really rare to have this - I work on a neurosurgical ward and one of the really experienced registrars has only met one person with it. So its so nice to talk to someone who has it.
My physio is totally flumoxed by it as she has only met 1 other mum with it too. She gave me a support for my bump to help support it and try and relieve my symptoms but I don't find it useful.

My meralgia parasthetica means I have altered sensation so cold is an absolute no - no! It sets off the burning sensation - arrrggh! Also shaving my legs is soo weird as I cannot really feel it that well.
Sometimes just the cloth of my trousers sets mine off. Do you get that too?

Are you working still? I have 28 week MW appt and am going to ask my MW if she would sign me off sick as I am finding it soo debilitating.
How about you?

Alison x
