Was anyone here late with their pregnancy and had to have a membrane sweep done to start labour?

I was wondering how a membrane sweep is done and is it painful?

Hiya hun

i had one at 41 and half weeks it didnt work for me :?

Not really sure what they do, but it didnt hurt at all hun

Hiya I had a sweep.

It's basically like an internal, the MW will use her fingers to "sweep" across the membranes of your cervix to loosen them up. Sometimes this will help you start labour, sometimes it won't do anything...it didn't work for me.

It didn't really hurt, was a bit uncomfortable, that's all, and I had a few BH afterwards.

Ok thanks, I'm just worried about baby being late and huge! But I am worried about everything right now!

i had one at 40weeks +4 days. was a bit painful but mainly uncomfy. think it kinda got me going as i lost my plug pver the mext few days then waters went on the 4th day. they say it should work within 2-3 days but i think mine was just slow!

its not pleasant but by that point i didnt care as long as it meant i was going to have my baby at last!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i had one at 40+6 and i was already 1cm..i had my show when i got home from having sweep and had bubba at 40+9 slow labour is evil!!

mine did hurt but i think its the man that was doing it..he was so inconsiderate! i think if i had a decent person doing it, it may have only been uncomfortable!

I was exactly the same as you fran, I think they do work but only if your buba is ready to come!!!
