Is everyone just going for a scan at 20 weeks?
because when i got my letter through from the hospital it says i will be going to see a consultant
I will get a scan at some point during the day but first i have to go see the midwife, then have a scan..then go along to see a consultant and the letter says "expect to be here no less than 3 hours"

Has anyone else got to do this at 20 weeks?
Or is everyone doing it and im just being dumb

I didn't have this. :?

I just had my scan at 20 weeks, I was in and out the hospital in 30 minutes. But, every area seems to be completely different so I would enjoy the extra attention and checks if I was you!!

I was thinking its because my midwife put me under consultant care...but i dont know
Im expecting to be sat there for a long time

i went for my 20 week scan 5 weeks ago. i booked it when i went for me 13 week scan, so i didnt get a letter. i havent seen my consutant yet.

everywhere is different.
When i had my first two babies i had them at city hospital nottngham and i didn't have to see my consultant.
But when i had my third i had her at a different hospital in bassetlaw (actually that might be under derbyshire ) as we have moved and i saw my consultant on my 12 week scan. He was very good actually and moved my dates one week to the 3rd July and i had Bethany the 3rd July!

Don't worry Eblinx. Its good to meet your consultant - enjoy! :D

everywhere is differnet, in manchesteryou only see a consultant if you have complications or are high risk down sindrome ect. i seen a consultant because Dior was premiture and because my mum had a stillborn spina bifida baby.but some areas every one sees a consultant

My midwife recommended I see a consultant at 20 weeks because of old kidney problems.

Do you have any old/established health issues?

It won' take long, you just see the consultant who's attached to the pre-natal dept and then they asses you to see if you need refering somewhere else.

Don't worry, it's a good thing that you're getting this level of care so early on, it means any possible problems will be picked up.

Good luck!

Hey thanks for you replies guys..she said she wanted to put me under consultant care because she is worried about my weight (which i dont think is too bad) so its probably just that..and me making a big deal out of nothing

I saw the consultant after my 20 week scan. Thought it was common practice but then I've had a bad history with pregnancy so maybe it was that. Personally I think its a good thing as you get to ask questions about the scan etc and I found it very reassuring.
Good luck with the scan
