I thought I would write my birth story seeing as my little man is on a bit of a feeding mission tonight/this morning!

So Monday 1st started to get some tightenings which I knew must be the start of things as we're very different to braxton's.. Mainly coz my braxton's hurt more! This is my second baby though so I knew that being so weak meant I had a long way to go! Started to time them as they got a bit stronger, and by about 11pm they were roughly every 20 mins apart. I called the hospital and they said seeing as its second baby (and therefore could come fast) I should come in when contractions are 2-3 mins apart, or if my waters broke.

Continued to have contractions through the night so was knackered and they were getting any stronger. By Tuesday morning they were stronger but longer apart, roughly every 30 mins. Great I was slowing down! Only positive was I got to go to my sons sports day, and it was even closer to the hospital than my house so I had no worries going. Towards the evening they were now about every hour so I started getting depressed thinking about my first birth (3 days long, in agony, too exhausted to push properly so had ventouse) and at 4 days before my due date was convinced it meant I'd go over! ;-(

Went to sleep Tuesday evening and had the best sleep I'd had in months! Woke up and realised that must have meant contractions had stopped and therefore so had labour.. Boooo! Went for a wee around 7:30am, got back into bed and 'pop' felt my waters go! Luckily I had been sleeping on a towel for weeks anyway, but it only trickled out a little until I got up. Woohoo progress! Woke oh and called mil to take my son to school. Called the hospital and they told me to come in. Literally straight away contractions were coming thick and fast, about every 5 mins. I managed to have a shower and get everything ready before we set off. On way there they were now around every 3 mins and getting very very painful! Was desperate to get there and get some drugs!

Arrived at hospital around 9am and they could see what a state I was in so took me straight to my room with a midwife. First check I was already 5cms and by the time she'd got everything sorted (there is sooo much paperwork for them throughout!) I was 7 and begging for my epidural! Asked everyone who came in the room (inc the cleaner) if they were the one with the drugs! Finally she arrived and I was desperate for her to hurry up but it was all slow and controlled. I was scared it would be too late to have it so was willing her to shut up and get on with it as by now was in absolute agony! Love gas and air but its not enough for me. Finally it was in and it was HEAVEN. Wasnt able to have it last time so was determined this time I would. She explained she was giving enough to help lower pain, but not to numb me as I would need to start pushing soon.

Could really feel the pressure as baby was moving down, but could feel contractions anymore and without gas and air I was really with it and normal. Negatives are it slowed me down. By 1pm midwife said baby would be here already if I hadn't have had it, but I still don't regret it. I was checked again and sad fully dilated.. Although my trainer midwife was convinced she could still feel some waters (even tho I knew they would all be gone as there was loads!) so proceeded to try and break them with that horrible hook. In the end midwife checked and it was baby she was feeling, no waters!

Around 13:40 I started pushing and it was sooo hard, I felt like my head was going up explode I was pushing so hard and it didnt seem to be doing anything! They got me up on my knees and leaning onto oh and pushing which I hated, but it appeared to bring him down a bit. I then laid back down again for the rest. I'm not gonna lie.. It was horrific. In the end I had my legs in stirrups and I could feel both the midwife and trainer stretching me and moving baby's head down. I was properly screaming. At the point of crowning it really was like a ring of fire - my god that pain!!! Next couple of pushes and head was out and I could feel his warm body instead. Honestly that was the best feeling ever.. Last push/cough and he was out! She gave him a little clean and put on my chest. Amazing.

Max Henry born at 14:49 on 3rd July (3 days earky) weighing 8pounds 1ounce (despite being told for months I was measuring small).
