Maternity Pay and all that confusion...

I’m self employed... you’re all making me jealous! I think I’ll manage to take 6 weeks before I need to go back a couple of days a week!

I’ve saved six weeks annual leave so I’m going to work to 33 weeks then take all my annual leave in a lump. Or that’s the plan anyway.

Do you know which weeks they take into account your enhancements to work out your weekly pay rate? I’ve looked it up but I don’t really understand it

Sadly I'd used up far too much off my leave so I only managed to scrape 2 weeks together to take immediately before maternity. I'm sure I'll live!!

I believe it's weeks 18-25 of your pregnancy that count so get stuck into those weekends and nights!! Don't quote me though as I don't work nights or weekends so it's only basic pay for me.

With ds I was straight onto SMP, 90% for 6 weeks then £140 a week.
This time I'm in a new job and I'll get 12 weeks at 90% then the £145.
Plus I get a return to work bonus so I'm much better off this time! It is definitely tough, I'm very glad ds will be starting school next September so only one lot of full time childcare to pay when I go back to work.

I work in the nhs I’m getting 8weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay plus amp and the rest smp. I can also take 3 months of no pay. I’m allowed to spread the payments out which is great.

I’m the same as Nightowl, Work for government office and get 6 months full pay and 3 months stat pay then nothing. The stat pay was more than I thought and I coped, it was the 3 months unpaid that killed me! Had to as OH for pocket money 😂
Child benefit is £82.80 a month and gets paid every 4 weeks so apply as soon as you can after baby is born for it to come through. They do back date it up to about 12 weeks I think in case you get delayed.
No idea re child tax credits as Im entitled.
I’m only having 9 months this time then bumping it up with a months Annual leave so I get paid again for month 10 then hopefully if I can save enough to cover the mortgage for month 11 I can do it that way

I don't earn enough to qualify for SMP so I have to apply for Maternity Allowence, I earn about £3 below the threshold 0_o. I'll get about £90 a week for the same time as SMP and that's it.... I have about 2 weeks holiday banked too so I should be able to leave within the next month.

My hubby wanted me to quit work anyway as he hates my job but I enjoyed working as I actually felt that I was contributing something to life.

We have to save up so that he can take Paternity leave. Paternity pay is less in one week than he earns in a day.... I have to save over £1000 just so that he can have his 2 weeks off. He's save his holiday pay though so hopefully he'll be able to get about a month off in total.

My sister is nhs and is doing this aswell, spreading it out, which I think is ideal.

God it really does vary a lot from job to job

Thankfully our HR lady can dumb it down for me
