Does anyone know the difference between mat pay and statutory mat pay, I thought they were the same thing but when I went to jobcentre plus to discuss mat allowance they said I may be entitled to stat mat pay rather Than mat pay. Haven't discussed this with work yet but hoping someone can give me a heads up on the difference.

They are basically the same but if your entitled your employer will pay smp as they can claim it back off the government, if you haven't worked there long enough you will claim mat allowance from the government. I think they are the same weekly amount

Smp is what your employer pays bt you hve to be working there so many weeks etc and mat allowance is the governnent paid money when you dnt get smp x

If you earn over I think 108 a week you get stat maternity pay if you earn under a certain amount you have to apply for maternity alowence, I earn 104 a week I think so I had to apply for maternity alowence and get 91 a week.

Mat pay is what your work pay you, statutory mat pay is from the government. For example, my work pay me full pay for the first 3 months of my mat leave, 1/3 pay for the next 3 months, then I get statutory mat pay for 3 months & nothing thereafter. Therefore I am saving enough money to top my my salary up to full pay for months 3-12 of my mat leave so life can financially go on as normal x
