Hiya, you would have thought I would have known this by now but when you ladies are out for the day how do you make your bottles? I'm going to Florida in 2 weeks and for me to take enough cartons for 3 weeks will be ridiculous but that's how I do Issy's feeds when out! So any advice would be great thank you! :) x x

I used a flask for the water, took how ever many clean bottles I needed and 1 or 2 of those milk powder dispensers depending how long I was out for. Used to take me 1 min to make a bottle x

I used to have the little pots that held powder in them and a flask of hot water and a small bottle of sterile cold water, chuck it all into his bottle, give it a shake and boom, jobs a goodun!! It was far easier than only taking in hot water and asking somewhere for a pot of cold water...or waiting for it to cool slowly...or taking a little carton and asking for hot water...sometimes, I would buy a carton of the formula milk and had a big hot water flask ( tomee tipee) that you could stick the bottle into and warmed the milk.

This is really useful as I'll be going away only for the night soon but there won't be a fridge in the hotel room to store the ready made milk once it's open so will need to make it the above way

How do I know how much of the boiled water to put in with the formula before adding the cold water? I know it obviously needs to end up being 4 or 5oz eventually but not sure of the ratio of boiling to cold

Thanks

It's all about experimenting, it's a while since I last bottle fed my son, but it wasn't much hot water, just remember the powder will cool it down too. Worse case scenario of if it is too hot, cool it down in some cold water (bottle into water) eventually, you will know how much you need. Good luck.

Just jumping on this thread! Just wondering how long do you let the boiled water cool before putting it into the flask? Obviously you want it to be over 70 degrees, but you don't want it boilig as this kills the nutrients. How quickly does a flask cool down? Is it worth putting the boiling water straight in, or waiting like 15 or 20 mins or something?

And what bottle would you use for the sterile cold water? Would this be one of the sterile baby bottles? And by sterile water do we just mean cooled boiled water?

Sterile water is just cooled boiled water and I put this in a sterilised baby bottle, or in a small flask.
I used to our boiling water straight into a sterile flask and it cools down a few degrees after a short time, but I wouldn't worry so much about killing nutrients etc...by the time you have combined hot and cold water and then poured formula in top, it's absolutely fine.
