We both love this name but I am not sure if I can get over the history of it. What do u think?

I love the name too and was thinking of it, but the first thing my partner said when I mentioned it, no we cant call baby that because of the Maddie McCann

I love this name but just couldn't bring myself to use it :-/ x

When i read the first post all i could think was "what history?" I thought of Madeline from the childrens books and then of Madeleine Stowe the actress. Feel a bit guilty now, but it wasnt the first thing that popped into my head, maybe because I think of her more as Maddy.

It's a gorgeous name. But if you feel really uncomfortable with it then how about a variation on a theme? How about Magdaline (that would be Maggie rather than Maddie) or Madeleina (a fairly common french name)?

I love it too and also have swerved the idea due to the history :eh:

I really like the name too, but i have others that i prefer more.

I think you should definately use it if you like it - i don't understand why not.

I know about the little girl that got snatched, but i fail to see the relevence.

The kids at school won't know, most adults who make the connection will have enough tact not to mention it and by the time your child is grown it will be ancient history.

I agree with Louise, if you like it use it, it's a pretty name. A tragic story , but not at all what I think of when I hear this name, (I see the naughty girl i the film)
