Hi ladies,

sorry to most medical bits on here but I’m feeling totally abandoned by the nhs. My midwife left my practice, I’ve never met my new midwife as she was ill for my 16 week appointment so I don’t have a phone number or anything to contact.

Im 18 weeks.

I went to the drs because I’ve been a bit pale, unwell and a few heart palpitations, I know my sister had low iron with her pregnancy so I assumed it was that. They did and ecg, full blood count and iron blood test.

Ecg was fine, bloods came back, iron was fine but hb result on the full blood count was borderline. I haven’t been able to speak to a dr, no one is available to speak to me so this is all I’ve got from the receptionist, apparently someone tried to call me but couldn’t get through so they sent me a letter to say they need to repeat the blood test in a week.

So obviously I turned to the nhs website for guidance. This says that low hb can be a sign of either iron anemia or vitamin anemia, my iron was fine. The vitamin anaemia is b12 deficiency and folate deficiency, which we all know can cause birth defects such as spina bifida or premature babies/low birth weight.

has anyone had results like this and all been ok? Am I panicking over nothing? Or should I call the doctors again?

I don't know how to help you with this but have you been taking your prenatal vitamins?
Maybe you could ask some advice from a dietician to amp your vitamin intake. Or get some supplements, most can be bought over the counter anyways.
I would keep on annoying them to set up a proper consultation! They can't just leave you in the dark.
Best of luck hun!x

thanks hun, yes I take a prenatal multivitamin, and up until 12 weeks I was taking double folic acid as it was in both my prenatal and my pcos supplements. I’ll try the drs again today.
