Looks like my maternity leave started 3 weeks ago!

I'm a school teacher and we broke up about 3 weeks ago. I had arranged to go back in for the first day of term which is an inset day just to hand over paperwork etc. This means my maternity leave was actually starting on the 5th September which is a tuesday. Well today I got a letter informing me that my maternity leave HAS to start on a sunday which makes it the 3rd. Not sure excatly why, something to do with SMP. Anyway there is no way I could work a week and finish on the 10th which was the other option as I am already struggling as it is so looks like I wont be going back after all and therefore my maternity leave sort of started 3 weeks ago.
Am I gutted? Hell no, no teaching for me until MARCH
