Isaac prefers looking to his left whilst laid on his back. We're encouraging him to look to his right with various toys etc and just wondered what other babies fave side to look at was? Is there are general favourite?

Harrison always used to lean and look to the right, I'd worry constantly that he'd stay like it if he didnt even it out by leaning and looking to the left but he soon grew out of it when he could hold his head

Sam was always looking to his right. my doctor advised me to change the posttion of his moses basket to encourage him to look left.

They tend to always look towards a light or the window, so you could try turning him occasionally.

Don't want to worry you, but my daughter had torticollis (tight neck muscles) and would only look to the right which caused plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome, we considered a helmet til we realised what the underlying problem was). In the end it was all sorted with physiotherapy, but it was quite stressful at the time. With Alex I've been quite obsessive with making sure he doesn't have a preference and have been turning his head if he sleeps on one side too much, which has definately helped.

Only saying this just to make people aware that sometimes that it can be more than just a preference :)

Libby's fave side is the left, we just did the same as you are doing and put toys on the right side of her to encourage her.
We spoke to the HV about it, and apparently it is common for babies to prefer one side :D

Dylan looks to the right on his toys on baby Gym he always looks at the huney pot but I am gonna swap it with the bee see if it is the honey pot or the right but i am hoping it is the right as i am running out of anything intresting to say about the honey pot

Kina  I remember how upset you were about it too, I thought of you as soon as I started reading this thread.

Thanks Urchin
I just remember how horrible it was trying to stretch her neck and how she used to scream, it was soul destroying. I think that the fact the HV and GP both tried telling us that it was normal before she saw the paediatrician is part of the reason I just don't trust them anymore. I didn't want to come across as all doom and gloom when I posted as it's just one more thing for us mums to worry about, but I thought it was important to point out that in a minority of cases it can cause problems.

Just wanted to send some  Kina, and hope that all is now well for Ella, and I think it's a good thing you posting about torticollis (tight neck muscles), as I for one have not heard of it before
Thankyou for the replies everyone :)

Oh she's fine now - you can't notice her head unless her hair is wet and the swelling to her face went down after a few months (the flat head pushed one side of her face so it looked flushed and swollen). No long term damage at all
