Hi all,

I currently work as a bank nursing auxiliary but I'm in too much pain doing it and not guaranteed work either.

I have been applying for full time permanent positions (before I start showing) and yesterday was offered a job.

I don't have a start date yet. But when do you think I should let them know I'm pregnant? I have my ultrasound on 24th August so need the time off for that.

Don't want to walk in the door and be like "hey I'm pregnant, I need maternity leave"

By law you're not obliged to tell them until at least 25 weeks before you're due to give birth. But there's a very good chance they will obviously begin to notice before then if you start showing. Xx

I also work as bank auxiliary. Thankfully lots of work in our trust.
I started my new job when I was 8 weeks pregnant and didn't tell them until I was 14 weeks when I had my daughter. They were great about it. It happens more then you think x

Is the job going to be the same work as before with aux nursing? I'm a nurse on a children's ward and had to tell my bosses sooner. A lot of our patients have quite serious infections that you can't work with if pregnant so I'd have no other way of getting out of it unless I told them. Also we do quite a lot of heavy lifting and it's not always avoidable, I think once you've had your scan I'd be inclined to tell them. I'm sure they'll be great about it! I also found the extremely glamorous work trousers really uncomfortable and needed maternity trousers from 17 weeks so you may also be needing your boss to order these. Your start date probably won't be until around your scan anyway so should work out fine!

Congratulations and good luck with the new job xx

Hi,

No the job is an admin job with a new company so with a different organisation. I would be fine if it was still NHS but because it's a new company and I'm just starting I feel slightly guilty!

Well that makes it easier in terms of the issues I mentioned. I still always think honesty is the best policy and gets you off to a better start. Don't feel guilty either, it happens all the time in companies big and small hun xx
