Hi lovely ladies.
My husband and i need to get a new car in the new year and we were discussing what one might be suitable for when baba is here. i know this is important as friends of mine have had to change their cars once baby comes along as they arent suitable. We were going to spend about 3 or 4 thousand and get something second hand. something bigger than our current golf but not too big like a people carrier. any suggestions?

Absolute must is 5 door...

but my dad has a peugeot 206 and its really roomy in my opinion

are 5 doors much better for getting babies in and out then? Someone said something about the electric windows being dangerous?

most cars dont have leccy windows in the back! its usually the revolver thingy....

soooo much easier for gettin bubba outa the back!

depends on teh pram you buy...

just take into consideration etiher a roomy boot, or a compact folding pram....

i have two travel systems, one is an "umbrella fold" and one is quite big folded and they both fit in my fiesta boot! and fiestas arent exactly huge!

we have a ford mondeo. It's a lovely smooth drive, lots of space and has power assited steering. It has a built in cushion on the drivers seat that you can pump out, great for comfort. boot is big enough for pram, and you can fit 2 kids seats in back with space in the middle for adult still

my OH works as aa patrol and always recommends japanese as by far most reliable ie honda, toyota. they tend to be slightly dearer than your fords ect but he rarely goes out to them. i had a civic 3 door that was amazing but needed 7 seater so we have a toyota avensis verso neither have ever broke down needed repairing ect. do not buy renault lovely cars but the most unreliable on the road according to OH 90 percent of his jobs are renault he hates them!!!! i wouldnt worry about the electric windows you shouldnt be leaving kids alone in the car to get strangled any way you know what i mean??? other than that bit boot and big doors so you can get bubba in and out easily

I had a 307 that was very good... boot was spacious and rear seats would accomadate 3 adults although it wasn't a huge car!

I have just traded in my super sexy hyundai coupe 2.7 V6 for a very boring Audi..... oh the sacrfices we make for kids eh!!!!

I was going to say Golf lol but you have one already!!

Why dont you wait till the baby is born to see if you even need to bother changing it?

I have a honda civic 5 door and its a dream to drive it has a huge boot and 5 doors. My sis had a 3 door car when her buba was born and it was a pain getting the baby in and out of the back seat.

We bought a Peugeot 206 back in the summer, 5 door, think its going to be fine and wasnt too dear.

Better than the Ford KA we had prior to that, now that WAS a small car!

same as papa smurf jaidy!

is urs diesel?

my dad got a 1.4 diesel and he said it does 70 miles to a gallon!!!

i wish my car did that hahahahah

I love my Golf! Why would you want to change it???!!

Mine's a 5 door automatic, and I find it plenty big enough. The only time I kinda struggle is when I do the big big shop. If I forget and leave the pushchair in the boot, I end up with bags of shopping everywhere!! :rotfl:

We have a mondeo too and its really big inside. Ours has 3 proper seatbelts in the back too instead of the one that just goes round your waist that they usually have in the middle. Ours is a saloon though and although the boots big i think it would be much easier to get the pram in and out of a hatchback.

OMG i totally forgot about the fact that my car is a 3 door! Its going to be a nightmare for getting baby in and out of the car :( . i have a ford KA and knew it was going to be a nightmare anyway as its so small (ie for the pram) but just realised how muchof a pain its going to be!

Yep afraid to say you will DEFINATELY struggle with a Ford Ka.

My pram only just fits sideways in my 206 boot and thats like 4 times as big as the Ka's boot.

it does actually make me laugh how people with only 1 child seem to think they need all the space in the world LOL

ive got 2, and drive an escort rs turbo, its got 3 doors- kids cant open back doors if they dont have any 8) its got a big boot, however i think i might need something slightly more comfortable....

though we have a sierra cosworth for that :D :D :D

im sure most of you are thinking wtf is she on about lol well me and OH are into cars and do a lot of shows etc.....

i managed a 3dr corsa with 2 kids quite easily, the problem a lot of people dont seem to think of is a 3dr hatch has a lot more leg room than a 5dr hatch......

Oh's mum has an audi a3 5dr and kids can hardly get in theres that little leg room...

so unless you want a full on saloon id stick with the golf, babies really dont take up that much space, unless you have a 250 in 1 pram to fill the boot with :rotfl:

Sassyminx - you do like your cars!!! Sounds like my husband

Ever tried a Puma? Surprisingly a car seat does fit in the back and the pram in the boot!! The Almera will be the main car though. How many cars do you have?
