lol will I?

The delights of asthma eh  :wall: Some products can aggravate it alas. Try not to worry overly  Just be aware that most of these things are not nice to the environment and therefore are not nice on the lungs either.

TBH I avoid most cleaning products as far as possible anyways. I only use the nasty ones occasionally more as we are on a private water supply and I don't like flushing it all into the septic tank to be broken down. I also open the windows when I use it to take away the smell and never leave it longer than a few minutes before running back in and flushing the loo or rinsing it away.

But I do avoid using sprays where possible always. I use furniture polish creme etc. And I dust down with a damp cloth over anything else in between times. I never use air freshener. I just open the windows

With regard to bleach, I use it rarely as its a nasty substance. I use the Ecover (sp) products where possible for loos and so on. The smell takes a bit of getting used to but it does the job.

Because my asthma is aggravated by dust I tend to hoover and damp dust therefore doing away with needing some of the aerosol cleaning products.

As for the other products they list, those are used more rarely, window cleaner etc.

I must have one good clean a month and then inbetween mop floors, damp dust and hoover once a week. I've been known to break out the hoover twice in a week on occasion if it gets really bad in the sitting room

I'm of the school of thought that its good to have a bit of dirt around  Builds up a childs immunity. I don't go with having everything spotless or cleaning overly. I just can't live like that as we are on a farm, dogs in and out, chickens and goodness knows what else. I make sure the kitchen worktops are clean and so on but for the rest, I've never gone overboard even with my asthma. Hopefully our child won't be asthmatic.

Normally I'm quite lazy when it comes to cleaning, but in the last few weeks it's become a bit of obsession! I never normally use bleach, but at the moment I'm finding cleaning every exposed surface with bleach and a scouring pad very satisfying!
I cleaned all the tiles in my bathroom yesterday

The cat is still doing my head in too. I am super sensitive to his cat hair and dirty paws. When he's in the house I can't relax, it makes me feel on edge knowing he's prowling around with muddy feet getting germs everywhere.
I want to be a dirty slob again!

im the same and also originally from a farming village. Farm kids just dont get asthma and allergies like the over-sanitized city kids! Research has proven that children brought up with animals have better immune systems. I certainly wont be bleaching everything- its not natural.

Awwww, its the nesting bug

I've told hubby to tie me to the bed if I start

I'd say to lay off the bleach and find an alternative thats a bit easier on te lungs. And dont' worry overly about the cat. I know its not easy, they are able to get to lots of places and it used to drive me nuts when we had cats and they would jump up onto the side in the kitchen :wall: The rest of the house I never worried about, but paws on worktops :puke: I always kept some antibacterial wipes handy.

For me my crapness is that I never had childhood asthma. Mine developed when I moved to a city at 21 and was away from all the things I grew up with :wall: :( Horses, dogs, countryside and so on. I am now allergic to horses, I can't cope with the dust/dirt from them and also their horse hair cause me to itch, develop a rash on my neck and my breathing to go haywire and develop into a full on asthma attack :( Cats also are pretty much off limits now too.

Dust and so on aggrivates my breathing and eyes and so on. And I now also suffer hayfever.

But none of this before I moved away and lived in a city for a number of years :wall: :wall: :wall:

So I really hope my non cleaning approach will have a good effect on out child and they won't be asthmatic as a child at least. Also our lifestyle is now rural again and has been for years, we live on a farm and so on so I hope it does the trick.

i wouldnt worry too much, i used cleaning products, and jack seems fine up to now!!!

I have got a little cleaning obsessed recently. But i'm quite happy using a damp duster, a hoover and occasionally those floor cleaning pad things. Might be different if i as cleaning a whole house rather than a room.

I am asthmatic - i had it awfully as a kiddy, then again a few years ago and now *hopes* it seems to have gone again! Woooo

I had asthma as a child, but it seemed to disappear when I took up smoking as a teenager! :?

I tend to think that a few germs are more good than harm - but I am careful around food. I use alot of anti bac on my cooking surfaces and bleach, I know it's harsh because I can feel it. I HATE using cloths in the kitchen because I know they're a number 1 source of germ warfare!

Anyway this just gave me a little nudge to do something I've been planning on for a while - I bought a hand held steam cleaner!

I never use cleaning products, its steam cleaning all the way for me :D

ECOVER    all the way!!! I love it and it smells lush... and i got a whole store room full of the stuff from the business :cheer: could sit in there and smell it all day long
