I am still a long way off from doing this, but I have been reading a lot about not weaning with bland foods, introducing flavour right away, and even weaning straight onto chewable things. Sorry, please don't answer to tell me this is a bad idea if you never tried, but if you have experience in this could you tell me what you did and how it went?

Here is an article I just found and haven't finished reading yet: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/nov/05/foodanddrink

Do you mean baby led weaning (BLW) moss? That's just starting at 6 months, missing out the purees stage and starting straight away with finger foods (fruit, veg, toast, chunks of cooked meat, breadsticks, ricecakes etc).

If so, there's loads of us on here that went and are going down that route with great success, there's loads of threads on it. I've no time now, but hopefully someone else will come and pop some links up for you or you could search for threads containing 'BLW'.

Yes! Haha.... After I read the article I felt a little silly. I will look for threads, thanks. I haven't seen any yet for some reason. Whenever I read about weaning here it seems like it is all about rice and cereal, which is fine, but not what I want to do. I'm really looking forward to cooking for Jacob! I am obsessed to a scary extent with broccoli (some people call me broccoli arrgh - Brooke/Broccoli) and can't wait to see him eat some!

I allowed BLW to start at 6 months, my LO is now just over a year old and still exclusivly breastfed and has no interest in solid food yet. Its all about following thier lead and isnt such a minefield once you start. You seem like you are into researching before starting things which is fantastic .. have you thought about vaccines too... now that is a huge minefield even more so than BLW and takes some time to get your head around x :)
