Glenn has slept through since leaving the hospital but the midwife has been round and told me not to leave him longer than 5 hours between feeds, needless to say i havent woke him up, his last feed is 10pm ish and he sleeps until 5 so he is going a good 7 hours and he is very content when he wakes in the morning, he doesnt go mad for a feed he just niggles until i pick him up, he has had a little bit of jaundice but i have been giving him regular feeds in the day and eveything else is good, shall i just ignore her or tell her to shut up? (the midwife, that is) why do they think they know it all? i have asked her not to visit now til monday as i am not keen on her to be honest and she wasnt keen but tough right?
anyone else not keen on there midwife? i wish i had a nice one.

This is something I got conflicting advice on between MW's and HV's. I personally woke Ellie every 4hrs at night during the first 2 weeks but didn't after that. That was my choice though. However I think it is dependant on your LO's weight, Ellie was born 8lb so there were no weight issues. I am sure I read somewhere that if they are low birth weight then you need to make sure you wake them for feeds. I hope this helps.

My advice was that I was given by a trusted doctor and which I did:

I didn't let Kai go 5 hours between feeds until 2 months, so for example my husband fed him at 10 and 1 (which he didn't mind doing as he stays up late) and then I woke up and fed Kai at 6. This worked well for us but I can imagine it wouldn't work in many households. But with this routine both of us got a decent amount of sleep each night and luckily Kai never woke between 1 and 6.

Dead on 2 months I tried to get Kai to sleep through and he did - 11-7 up until 7 months and then he stopped sleeping through - but that is another topic, luckily he does now.

While I was in hospital I tried to feed Gabs every couple of hours to get my milk kicking in but after that I fed her on demand; as and when she needed it.

I think it is a personal choice and you should do what you feel comfortable with. As long as he is happy, healthy and gaining weight. :D

If he is gaining weight within normal parameters, there is no reason to wake him. :)

During the first few weeks, my LO had jaundice. As I was told that jaundice makes a baby more sleepy and that regular feeds would clear the jaundice faster, I chose to wake my LO for her feeds.
