I think Phoebe has a lazy eye. I've noticed it for a while now but didn't think it looked too bad but it's progressively got worse. Her right eye just doesn't seem to look in the same direction as the other. Other people have started to point it out now too.
So I raised this with the HV this morning when she went for her MMR and the HV spotted it too and has sent us a referral to the hospital. She didn't seem to know much about it though. I asked her what they'd do and if there was any way to treat it but she just said all we can do is refer you, fair enough. But I was just wondering if anyone else's LO's have had this and can let me know what to expect?

I childminded a little boy with a slight squint/lazy eye. It's pretty common hun so don't worry. He had to wear glasses (I think he wore them when he was 18mth-2yrs) and had to have a patch over his good eye for an hour at a time twice a day to stregthen the weaker eye and 'train' it to face front IYKWIM. He still wears glasses now for long sightedness but the lazy eye is fixed :) I'm not sure what happens if it's a significant lazy eye but i'm sure you'll get lots of help from the professionals x

Thanks girls, yeah a couple of people have mentioned she might have to wear a patch, I can't imagine her liking that one bit lol. The HV said I should get the referral within the month though, so hopefully we'll be able to see whats going on soon. She's never seemed to have any issues with her eyesight that I'm aware of, and it's not really too noticeable when she looks straight on, it's just when she looks to the left mainly that it's really noticeable x

I work with children with lazy eyes etc, if you want to load a picture when you are sitting straight in front of her with a flash on then I can give you a bit more info?
At your first visit they will just play different games looking at how and if her eyes work together as a pair, and what level of vision she has. Different hospitals do different things, we always put eye drops in on the first visit so we can check the health at the back of the eye.
Quite often when they are little it's something called a pseudo squint which means looks like a squint but isn't actually one, these are often noticed when children look to the side but not straight ahead.
PM me if you want any more information. Xx

I did placements at both Liverpool royal and Alder Hey. They are nice places to work, I've already finished work and I'm only 33 weeks, I'm beginning to wonder if I'll remember what an occluder is when I return April 2014!!

Hahahaha I'm sure you will, like riding a bike lol x

Thanks for your reply Ellisbump, I read your reply earlier and haven't had chance to reply until now. I tried taking a pic with the flash but as soon as she saw it she kept blinking lol, I think I blinded her a bit lol.

I do have a few pictures though, which I think it's pretty noticeable in

Thanks Linny, aww did they try anything when she was younger to try and correct it? x

No it only started getting worse a lil while back. It used to be when she looked at something close but now its all the time. She's really good with her glasses tho x

From the pictures you've put on she is always looking to the side so it could be a pseudo squint, therefore nothing to worry about. They will have a good check at hospital but I'm sure it will be fine. X

Yeah it's mainly noticeable when she looks to the left x

Tapatalking :)

It's often because the white of one of the eyes hides behind the folds of skin. Let me know how you get on when you get your hospital appt. which is your closest hospital? X

Thanks I'll be sure to let you all know. It'll be at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley if you've heard of it? :) x

Tapatalking :)
