I'm due to have a GTT tomorrow. This will be my third this pregnancy. I've consistently measured ahead throughout this pregnancy and I've been told by the hospital it is their standard practice to test every 4 weeks if continuing to measure ahead. All my previous GTTs have been within the normal range although at the high end of normal. All investigations have found no problems that would cause my measuring big. I'm likely to be having a large baby as my son was 9lbs born at 41 weeks.

My concern is I'm currently 36 weeks and I'm booked in for an elective section at 39 weeks. I'm not sure what if anything they can do in such a short time if it turns out I have GD. My worry is that by Monday I'll be 37 weeks and they will just recommend moving my section date forwards.

Has anyone else had a GTT this late and how did it go? What happened in the end?

I am no expert as was only diagnosed just over a week ago but our midwife seemed very knowledgable so thought I would pass along some of her words of wisdom-

Although someone might have a boarderline reading earlier on, as the reason for GD is the pregnancy hormones messing with insulin and the processing of sugar, it can get harder to manage as pregancy goes on. So someone who had a 2 hr reading of 7.5 for example which is just under the limit at 28 weeks could have readings much higher come 34 or 36 weeks as they are producing more fo the offending hormones.

I assume that as the last few weeks is when baby piles on weight it is especially important to control blood sugars at this time and if not done by diet they can give metformin or insulin and also induce or do c-sec earlier. Also if the mother has GD and the sugar levels are not controlled baby can produce too much of their own insulin to compensate and once they are born they continue to make this higher amount for 24 hours. This can mean baby has a low blood sugar level when they are born.

Thanks babyscorcher makes sense, although confirms my fears I might be facing an earlier delivery if there's an issue.

Hey i think i may be in the same predicament as u. I had GD in my last pregnancy borderline... was supposed to be diet controlled but i changed nothing and nothing happened never had any probs. This time i was tested at 16 weeks and 28 weeks and passed with flying colours.

I had a consultant app on Monday at 35 + 1 and had sugar in my urine so they want my urine tested now on tuesday again and posssibly another GTT... UGH

But if i do have to get a GTT and ive GD they can get d buck lol... i want my vbac and dont want sectioned.

Would they offer you an induction at all if you did turn out to have GD and they wanted you to deliver early?

I've point blank refused an induction based on last time, so it's a natural birth or section for me.

I was told if it was diet controlled GD it was induction around due date. If you are given metformin they induce at 39 weeks and if it is insulin controlled then induce at 38 weeks.

Mine is diet controlled so just going to try and get baby out anyway possible after I start maternity leave at 37+2.

Fingers crossed you will both have results that come back fine and will be nothing to worry about. X

They will possibly give me one persery if im lucky to induce me and give me 10 hours if no progress then section x
