Hi girls, this is probably a really daft question, but if you're cycle is irregular and never really the same length each time, how do you know when to take a HPT?

Thanks in advance x

I started using opks to track my ovulation so would test 14 dpo. Otherwise I would test with a hpt every week.

Sorry it's tricky, my cycles ranged between 26 days -106 days apart!x

I would test 20dpo...by this time if you were pregnant there would be enough hormone for any hpt to pick up xxx

Thank you! Mines a bit like that too although they seem to be getting closer together, I just feel like I'm playing a bit of a guessing game at the moment, hopefully going to test tomorrow or friday but don't want to get my hopes up then be disappointed x

Hi,
My cycles are just settling down after coming off cerazette minipill at the start of March so to
make life a bit more simple I bought some ovulation tests just to see when might be the best time
to bd and then take a hpt. Last cycle I gave myself 14 days after ovulating and poas, unfortunately
it was bfn and af appeared later that same day but at least my timing seems about right.
Good luck! Xxx

same here - came off cerazette 3rd May and been using opk - I got af 25th May - who knows how long my next cycle will be, lol

I took my last pill 2nd March so almost the same as you!
I got af 19th March then again 23rd April and 22 May so getting fairly
regular which I'm really pleased about. Next one should be around June 19th,
but hopefully not ha ha!!

Hiya,

I too have irregular cycles, ranging from 28-35days. I came off cerezette January this year & so think its mainly because of that. I agree with you, knowing when to do a HPT is tricky! Last month was my longest cycle at 35 days & between days 30-35 I started to get a little bit excited, I didnt feel pregnant (not that I would necessarily know what that feels like, we are TTC # 1) but as the month before had been a 28 days cycle I couldnt help but think maybe!?! Anyway I tested on day 32 & got a BFN then decided to wait another 3 days before testing again but thats when AF came :(

This month we've decided to b'd every other day between cd 14-20 & do OPKs and even though i'm prepared for another 35 day cycle, I know that as soon as day 28 passes by (if it does!) I will feel that same excitement again of maybe I am pregnant!? and I will really struggle to wait until day 35 comes/passes before testing hehe :) xx good luck to you all & apologies for the essay, I didnt intend to write so much when I first started typing haha :) xx

Lol I was in a similar situation a few months ago, I hadn't had AF for about 10 weeks and was convinced I was pregnant but every test was BFN and I finally went to the Dr who confirmed I wasn't pregnant, my cycle is still fairly irregular but its getting better! Going to start with the OPK's to improve our chances after AF has come xx

I have irregular cycles :( Best way is to chart your temps as opks don't confirm ovulation for sure x

I have VERY irregular cycles...

I am currently on CD114 yes thats right 114! I have PCOS so i have no idea when i ovulate or am due to ovulate, so i tend to use opk's ever 3 - 4 days and maybe 1 - 2 days if i experience cramping etc.

It's so frustrating!! Me and OH are trying the SMEP, as if I do ovulate and don't know, i have a chance of catching eggy!!

Hope you get your BFP!!

xx
