Faith was a very unhappy baby on breast milk and normal formula, we switched her to C & G comfort and she was a bit better but she still seemed to be in a lot of pain after feeds, she would curl her body up and cry, her stomach seemed really puffy and her poos (sorry for the TMI) were watery and explosive (and stank!).

I'd read about lactose intolerance and spoken to a couple of people on here and it sounded like what she had so I bought C & G soya milk and she seems SO MUCH better. Her poos are more solid, they smell less and she doesn't seem to be in pain (though she is incredibly windy!)

Now the soya milk isn't any more expensive than normal milk but i am thinking that SMA lactose free comes on prescription... do you think my doc would prescribe it for her?

I don't mind paying... but hey, if I can get it free...

yes he should do if you tell the dr what the problems are he will give you a couple weeks to try it but you need to ask for the sma one as some doctors will give you a prescribtion one which is ming its really thin and smells so bad :(
good luck with getting it hun most dr's are understanding thomas gets his wysoy on repete now with his colief :)
xx

I got SMA LF on prescription for Tia... although she was diagnosed with Lactose intolerance in the hospital by the consultant paediatrician.... so I was kinda on a roll with that. GP couldn't really say I was being an over anxious mother then (which she said on many occasions) :rotfl: :rotfl: But it can come on prescription and yes I remember it being INCREDIBLY expensive. So if you can go for it...

Lactose intolerance is one of the most common intolerances in babies. My friends little girl had problems too, but because she didn't get diagnosed her GP wouldn't prescribe SMA LF, so she had to stick with the Wysoy.

What you discribe sounds like lactose intolerance... Tia would be the same, especially the explosions of watery poo that really smells bad. :puke: Thats the one thing I remember clearly about it... and she'd have it for years after if she even ate a biscuit with a bit of milk in it.

Go to your GP and speak to him about it, fingers crossed he will prescribe it for you... it really is good stuff and it doesn't smell as bad as the wysoy. You won't loose out on doing it.

Good luck... my Dr was crap and just said 'yeah its colic'. He didn't want to know as she was gaining weight.

But having spoken to several others on here, I am sure that this was Phoebe's problem. She was screaming 9-9 everyday. Her nappies were so explosive that it was coming out the top and sides every time and she was screaming with the wind.

We switched her to Aptamil Easy Digest which has considerably less lactose in it and after about 5 days it was like someone had flipped a switch.

My top with the Dr would be to see a woman, they seem to understand a bit more!

Isla is allergic to Soya and Milk, she was on pepti junior and yes as long as it is the doctor or hospital that diagnose the allergy/ intollerance then you will get it free. The specialist milks can very very expensive. I have two unopened tins of you want to try it, but to be honest it takes rubbish and unless they are definatly allergic its not really the way to go.

Get your self and LO to the docs and get some proper skin prick tests and blood tests done then you can get it all free. :cheer:

My LO is also milk and lactose intolerant, the consultant at the hospital diagnosed it ,did skin prick tests and listened to what i had to say!!!!!
I now get lactose free milk on prescription, but my little un has also been put on a totaly dairy free diet after seeing a dieticion(sp).

The doc was easy to convince. I told her the difference the soya milk had made and explained the symptoms and voila... sma wysoy on prescription! It did mean we had to go to 4 pharmacies to find some stocked but hey!

The doc also teaches medical students - i helped her when i was pregnant and she's asked me to help her again in September when she teaches about lactose intolerance! so that's cool!

glad its sorted for you hun
one thing about wysoy is that it makes them have poo that is like clay lol its not nice :)
xx
