So its three weeks late but better late than never eh? Lets get started..
Our boy was due on 11th May, now I was hoping I would wake up on the Sunday morning and bam I would get a baby. It seems that's not really how it works - silly me! So low and behold the 11th came and went, as did the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th. I was due to see the midwife on the Friday 16th at 11am for a sweep if I was still pregnant - which I was
!!
Friday came and off to the midwife we went, I was feeling hopeful that the sweep would work, if it didn't I was to be induced the following Friday which was the day before by birthday! I really didn't want that, I was so ready to meet my baby as were all the family - you know how it is with all the phone calls and messages!
11am - sweep went well and she was happy with what she managed to get done, she said I was 2cm dilated and she could feel babies head, I was so excited! Hubby asked if he had hair, I assured him she was sweeping with her fingers and not her face, men for you lol.
11:30am - We went straight home where I suffered cramps straight away, I was told this would happen whether the sweep was working or not. I stayed positive but didn't get my hopes up too much as I was aware I could have another week to wait if things didn't progress.
12pm - I decided to stay mobile so while hubby was cutting the grass I swept the steps and garden area, by this point the cramps were really sore and I had to sit down.
2pm - Cramps were getting sorer and I just had to sit down, I went on my ball for a bit but they weren't going away.
7pm - We ordered Chinese for dinner as we do every Friday, hubbys cousin, her boyfriend and my friend were all present.
8pm - Chinese arrived and I couldn't eat it, cramps had now turned into pains that weren't regular but were certainly quite frequent.
9pm - Started timing the "contractions" I was scared I wouldn't know what a contraction was and I could maybe just still be having cramps.. hubbys cousin has a 1 year old and assured me I would know when it was a contraction. They were every 7-10 minutes and lasting about 1-2 minutes.
9:30pm - Phoned hospital for reassurance, the lady was useless and sounded as if I had interrupted her tea break
! She told me to phone back when they were 5 minutes apart and lasting 30 seconds, she didn't ask me anything about my pains or how far away I was from the hospital. My biggest fear was having this baby at home or on the way to the hospital.
10:30pm - The pains were getting sorer but still weren't any closer together, they were now beginning in my back and making their way round the front of my tummy. I decided to go for a bath to try and settle things. Hubby got into bed to wait for me. I didn't last in the bath for very long as I just couldn't get comfy.
10:45pm - I was on my knees on the floor with my upper body bent over the bed as this seemed to be the best position for the pain. By this time I was in a lot of pain, especially in my back, poor hubby felt helpless, he had my phone to time the contractions.
12:30am - Phoned the hospital again and said I wanted to come in and be examined for reassurance and to see if I was dilating etc.
1am - Arrived at hospital to be told I was still only 2cm and that I was to go home. Each contraction seemed to get more and more painful and I thought how can I only be 2cm but in so much pain? I was never going to make it to 10cm.
1:45am - Arrived back home and tried to sleep - IMPOSSIBLE!
3:30am - I was in tears with pain, my back was in complete agony and the contractions were now 5 minutes apart lasting about 1 minute. I phoned the hospital again and they said "phone back in an hour" I managed to hang off until about 6am as I felt as though I was being silly and it really couldn't have been as bad as I was making out if the midwifes just kept telling me to phone back. I really was in a lot of pain though
6am - Didn't even phone, got our stuff together and headed to the hospital, I was dosing off in the car as I hadn't slept a wink but with each contraction 5 minutes apart you can tell I didn't dose off for very long.
7:30am - Arrived at hospital AGAIN, got examined and I was 3cm!!!!!!! What was taking so long? Why was I not 10cm, I definitely had the pain for it lol. IAt this stage we discovered baby was back to back and that's where all my pain was coming from. I was made tea and toast and given a recliner chair as the ward was really busy and didn't have time to come and get me!
11am - I was in tears again as the back pain was now AGONY and I mean AGONY! I just wanted that to go away and then I could cope with the contractions but no
tI told them to get me an epidural and empty the birthing pool as I couldn't do it. Hubby and midwifes managed to talk me out of that and get me in the pool. They were now ready to take me upstairs and get me in.
12pm - I was now in the pool, I didn't really know what to do apart from float around lol. They weren't examining me again until 2pm which I was scared of as I just knew they were going to say I was still 3cm.
2pm - Examination time came and I was 8cm!!!!!! I was so surprised, it gave me a little push to carry on and get this baby out, he was still back to back so I was advised to get out of the pool for a little while and try moving about to try and turn baby.
4pm - He had finally turned and I got back in the pool, I was really still in pain with the contractions but the back ache was easing off which felt brilliant.
6:30pm - I'm still in the pool but my waters haven't broken, I got out for an examintation, I was now 9 and a half cm, as I stood up to get off the bed and back into the pool my waters broke! FINALLY
7:30pm - Floating around the pool and I get the urge to push! At this point I wondered if it was too late to turn back time. The pain is undescribable, at this point I have no idea what time it is, how long its going to be until baby is born or how much pain I'm about to go through....
..... from here is slightly a blur, first I think I'm going to poo myself, then I feel like my lady garden is on fire and then I see my baby floating around in front of me. I can't describe that moment but all I can say is it was the BEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!
8pm - Corey Antonio Moore was born weighing 8lb 7oz. He is just so perfect and I am so blessed to have such an amazing gift, he really is the best behaved boy in the world.
I'm so glad I was talked back into my original birth plan and had a natural water birth with no pain relief. I'm a very proud mother!
