Knee pain

I don't know what I have done but my knee is incredibly painful and quite swollen, especially below the knee cap and towards the outside of my knee if you get what i mean, it came on suddenly on sunday, I was trying to stand up from the floor and I got a pain in my knee, it was so bad I couldnt weight bear, it improved over the evening but the next day (monday) I couldnt walk on it. I rested it and by evening it was still swollen but not painfull. Tonight it is really painful again and more swollen. I cant drive like this and so cant get to GP wondered if anyone might have any ideas?
