I was lucky enough to get a private pelvic scan with work today.

My last period after my miscarriage started on 18th October 2015 and I’m currently 18 days late. I was hoping that on the scan I would see a little bean, but unfortunately not.

She told me that I had a polycystic ovary which I am gutted about.

She that that the lining looks like I’m due on in about 2 weeks’ time, does that mean that I’ll ovulate soon (that’s even if I can L)

I don’t understand that when I went for my early private scan at 5 weeks she said that there were no cysts on my ovaries?! How can there suddenly be?!

It’s just another spanner in the works now, I’ve been trying to stay positive throughout miscarriage etc.. but now I am losing hope L

I am going to read up on polycystic ovaries as I’m new to this. Also I have a hormone test with my GP on Monday to confirm it.

Hi, sorry there wasn't good news at your scan. Was it just the one cyst or do they think it's definitely PCOS? I was diagnosed with this a few months ago, I still ov though so FX you will too and you'll get a BFP soon x

thanks fairy princess, I think she said its defiantly PCOS.

How did they diagnose you? Did they confirm it with the hormone test? How did you know you had it i.e what made you get tested (sorry for all the questions lol)

I don't think I ov'd this month so its not looking hopeful :( xx

I was having really irregular cycles since coming off the pill. Then I had a really long one so went Drs to ask for a blood test cos thought I might be preg. She said my hormone levels were abnormal which suggested PCOS and referred me for a scan. Then they found lots of cysts. I keep a blog about it all if you want move info- links in my signature x

Aw hun i didnt realise the scan was today!!

Loads of ladies on hear have pcos and theres medication you can take to help hun! I believe clomid is one and it helps regulate ur cycles and forces u to ovulate. Will she be prescribing or has she given u a print out with details u can take to your gp?

Im sure some others on here can give u more info too!

I was due to have a scan to check for pcos because of my irregular long cycles.. But i took ISO F and it helped me ovulate, altho still late, it worked at cd26 and that was the cycle i got my bfp.

I have everything crossed hun xxxx

Thanks girlies!

I will have a look at your blog!

Thanks Dan I am going to tesco to get some of that!!!! Xxx

Hiya, I have pcos too. Cysts can come and go in a matter of days so it isn't unusual to see totally different things on scans. Honestly pcos isn't the end of the world, it is making it hard for us (I have it quite badly, but I also have another condition that makes it worse) but there are hundreds of ladies with pco who have children successfully so don't lose hope!

Thanks snowbee I really appreciate it ️xxx are you in clomid? Do you think the doctor would give it to me if my blood results come back abnormal and if I tell them I had a scan? Xx

Hia there is a difference between polycystic ovaries and pcos...pcos is when you have other symptoms such as weight gain, acne, oily skin, excess hair growth, irregular or absent periods. Polycystic ovaries is when you have cysts on your ovaries without the symptoms. I've read online that many women have it and don't even know they have polycystic ovaries.

I have pcos and I'm on metformin and also clomid. I had been ttc a year before my consultant gave me clomid but I have been on metformin for 4years and it has made my periods regular but not everyone responds to metformin.

Good luck on your journey and I hope you get answers soon :)

xx

Thanks for your reply I really appreciate it ️xx

Ahhhh I see I didn't realise that! Damn it I can't remember what she said now, I will have to ask her to write it up for me or somthing! So if I just have cysts on one ovary and not PCOS will they tell that from my bloods? Many thanks xx

No problem! Yea the blood test will determine if you have pcos because it will tell you your hormone levels. Xx

Ok great thanks very much :-) how is your journey going so far? Are you TTC ? Xx

Yea I'm taking clomid and also on metformin. Hubby had a vasectomy reversal in March 2014, he has 3 children from a previous marriage. we've had the sperm analysis back and everything is fine and it was a success so it's just a waiting game :) I'm on the waiting list for ivf if the clomid doesn't work :) fingers crossed it does!

How is your journey so far?
xx

I wow so please to hear the reversal went well :-) I've got my fx crossed for you!

Well I cane off the pill in June and caught straight away so I was really lucky, but unfortunately it ended in miscarrige, so I'm currently waiting for cycle 2 to come after misvarrige!! Xx

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage, fingers crossed you won't be waiting much longer to get your bfp!

Thanks I'm hoping for a Xmas bfp! Af is due on the 23rd!

xx

I'm about to start clomid, been waiting for af to show after mc at the beginning of October. Not all pco ladies need clomid to have children it is perfectly possible naturally it just may take a bit longer if you aren't a regular 'ovulator'. Both my previous bfps have been natural, I just take ages to get them and then lose them. So clomid for us now to try and speed it up.

Hi

I have PCOS (they initially said it was polycystic ovaries but not the syndrome - now they say it's typical PCOS). It took until June this year to get diagnosed as I have regular cycles, apparently ovulate, and no other symptoms.

I would echo what the other ladies say really. People with PCOS do get pregnant, it can just be harder. But it's not the end of the world. And cysts can come and go within days. I'm on metformin 1500mg a day, which seems to have made my cycles normal (although they were regular, I'd get spotting of up to 2 weeks, then my period was heavy and painful - that's all changed now). I've recently had IVF which unfortunately was unsuccessful, but they got 9 eggs, 6 fertilised, all were great quality and lasted until the best possible transfer day - day 5! A typical PCOS lady would produce over 30 eggs, maybe 5 or so would fertilise and they would not be very good quality (likely to die before day 5). So, although it didn't work, it looks like the metformin is working at least!

If they won't give you metformin, I would strongly recommend chromium and/or inositol as mild alternatives - the only other things to stop my spotting xxx

Thanks Phoenix girl, sorry to hear your ivf didn't work, fc for next time for you.

I had my scan results back today it said the following -

Retroveted uterus
Tri-layered endometrium with endometrial thickness = 8mm (mid cycle) however she was wrong as scan was Thursday and I came on on the Sunday!!

The right ovary appears bulky with increased central storms and peripheral cysts compatible with PCOS. The left ovary also contains multiple cysts and is elongated (BPL = 36mm) rather than bulky. No free fluid

Impression - unremarkable uterine and endometrial appearances. Polycystic ovaries (PCOS)

Booo this got me down!! Having a blood test at docs on 30th December !
