Are you working at the mo?

How long do you intend to be off for?

Does anyone work from home?

I have a job till december this year and I cannot get a new contract because I am pregnant and not married yada yada yada - i am a teacher in a catholic primary school.

Anyhows... that means I could do with a job after christmas. I would consider doing less hours or working from home. But by the time it comes to applying I wil be nearly 6 months pregnant.

Has anyone any ideas or advice on what they do? I am looking for some inspiration. I dont fancy sitting around for months with no income and have already saved as much as I can.

Thanks girls! xx

no advice as such hun but hope you manage to get something sorted.

could you not get some supply work or something - sorry im no help

im a nursery nurse and iv got to start thinking of when i want to come back im not sure yet but will be bringing him to work with me

I'm a teacher too - I'm going off beginning of Jan and going back Sept I think. If you register with some agencies could you not do some supply work? or if you were wanting to work from home - advertise as a home tutor? Just another thought - (not sure how to go about it or even if its possible) perhaps some exam paper marking?

Can't really think of anything else. In terms of getting a job - Spring terms are when most are advertised - depending on when you want to go back to work you could apply for the Autumn terms?

Hope this helps and good luck x

Ive no advice as i had to give up my job a few weeks ago due to all the chemicals i worked with (worked in a printers) and i didnt want to risk it so were having to cope with just hubbys wage untill i can get maternity allowance in january.

Hiya

I am working at the moment, 3-4 days a week 9am till 2pm. I just started on a childminding course on saturday because i dont want to have to go back to work once the baby is here but will still need a small income of some kind.

I have already got a woman who wants me to childmind for her next year, so i will have some money coming in and will be able to be at home for my own children too

i work full time and have done since going back to work after finishing my mat leave with alice.

Im planning to start my mat leave at xmas (well, 2nd jan is the start date making it almost 32 weeks).

Check out the entitied to website. see what help you can get that way.

I look after 2 girls, 7 & 13 yrs and I do 3 days a week. I take them to school in the morning, and then pick them up. I give them dinner and make sure they do there home work!! DD comes with me, and loves them to death. I have got everything I need there. All DD's bath stuff, a high chair, cot and loads of toys. It works really well. I was worried when I got pregnant again that they might not want me back with 2! but when I told my boss she told me she would hve me back with 5!!
I'm having 6 months off, so I can get breastfeeding almost over with, and DD will have started at Pre-school, so I can get her settled in.
I hope you find something that works for you x

We have just returned to the UK having lived in France for a year (worked very hard for the last few years so we could take a years sabatical and spend some time together).

Thank goodness DH finally managed to secure a job and started a couple of weeks ago, my experience is in IT Training Management and due to bump found no-one wanted to employ me on a permanent basis, and all the contracts were miles away from home......so not working now! I miss having interaction as DH works away most of the week, and its so lonely being on my own 24/7.

I would definitely suggest signing up with some temp agencies and doing something, even if just part time reception/admin work, more for mental stimulation rather than anything else.

I am hoping to start up my own business in a year or 2 once LO is old enough to go to nursery so have plenty of time to start writing business plans etc!!

well i have a minni cleaning job for a hour or so a week i'll work untill i feel i can't anymore probaly :D

Im a school nurse. Will officially leave at 36 weeks i think but gonna have a bout a week and a half annual leave to take as well so will leave just before 35 weeks
Im probably gonna take 9 months so will go back in jan
No idea whether I am going to go back full time/part time or what. Im still confused over tax credits, childcare vouchers etc so will need to look into that to work out whether we can afford for me to reduce my hours.
Unfortunately no family nearby to help with childcare so going to have to pay for a childminder/nursery which is going to be very costly!!!!!

I am still on maternity leave until January then I go back for 8 weeks at two days a week then off again for another year

Work did say I had to come back full time or nothing until I mentioned I would be 26 weeks preggers and then they reconsidered - not for my sake just because it wouldnt suit them for me to go back only for a few weeks - so ill have the same battle next year for part time :(

Sorry, I've not got any advice as I don't know much about teaching, other than asking if you have any colleges round your way that offer evening courses so that you can teach/run a class, either in a subject you're used to teaching or some kind of activity/interest you might have for a couple of hrs a week? Also a friend of mine did some home-marking of GCSE papers; she'd left teaching after having her LOs and it was her way of keeping 'in touch' with it all.

Me and hubby run our own business so I'll probably end up taking very little time off as I'll have no maternity pay at all while I'm off (except for the miserly government maternity allowance). Really don't want to but I can see it coming already, I had an operation earlier this year and was back at my desk 2 days after being released from hospital. I felt like crap - and was still woozy from the general - but we had deadlines that just weren't negotiable, it wasn't much fun. :(

I'm determined to make this a bit more 'official' though - will probably work up to 38-39 weeks, then take 4 weeks off completely. From then on I can work from home between naps/feeding/changing if hubby can't cope with the workloads or if we need the extra cash (which we're bound too, the type of work we do isn't particularly well paid).

I wish I had a rich OH so that I could be a lady that lunches! Or even just an employer that would pay me maternity leave!

I am currently working 4 hours a night mon to friday and it is exhausting! I have health problems so my consultant told me not to work past 32 weeks so I have worked it that I will finish on 19th december at 29 weeks then use my holiday to get me to 31 weeks this way I don't need a childminder for next term for the kids. It is a bit earlier than I would have liked to have started mat leave but it makes sense and I am not sure I could copemuch longer working anyhow I am really struggling now

Firstly are you sure they are allowed to disciminate against you because you are pregnant? I thought there were various laws on this issue?

Any way as for ideas, I would think about some kind of shop work that gives you good disounts.... or maybe something mundane that involves sitting at a desk all day, maybe typing in data (sounds boring but it pays well!)

Sorry if neither of these ideas appeal to you.

Personally I'm an accountant & auditor! Sounds fun eh?! But I like it, I plan to work as long as possible (providing I fit behind my desk!).

I work at a preschool from 9-3 and intend on working there as long as i can, right up to a month before if i can. However I wont go back for at least a year and if i do it will be irregular hours as i stayed at home for 5 yrs with my son and dont feel it would be fair to do it any different with this one, also when i do go back hubby would be looking after number 2 as he works shifts, i wont be using a nursery or childminder as after paying them it wouldnt be financially worth it.
