As im now having a planned section was wondering if you could talk me through what they do etc and the healing time after.
Also how BF is getting etc im kinda scared now !! Never had any sort of surgery !! XXX

wel iv neve had a planed section but had oe nontheess so hope this heps a itte. i had aspina i my back which i didnt fee anything of, just a litte scatch. (my l butto is off slightly forgive me) and i was lying there for a while ad felt this weight being lifte......it was like a load of pressured had been released off me....a completely surreal feelig but you can feel your child being born honestly, well, i could. after 4 weeks i was playing netball again! i ate properly ad didnt do any lifting or aythign overly strenuous but built it up slowly....... hope that helps as an opinion but hope jj can help with the planned part...why are you having one?x

I had an emergency section, and managed to breastfeed successfully. My advice is to get some help to prop you up, and make your bed higher than the cot to make it easier to reach in for LO.

The local anaesthetic is brilliant, I didn't feel the epidural at all.

I have only had an emergency section too. It was pretty much as Squeakz describes - you can feel them moving bits about before they lift out the baby but it's not painful. My sister in law likened it to it to someone rummaging in a handbag - that's the best way I can think of to describe it.

I will be having an elective on Wednesday if I don't go into labour before that (which is seeming less and less likely). I have to be at hosp for 7.45 to get op at 8.30am. I have to take an antacid tab the night b4 and one in the morning. No food after midnight the night before and nothing to drink after 6am. I have to have blood taken at health centre the day before. I have heard that an elective is very different from emerg - much more calm and organised and you will be more comfortable beforehand (i.e. not in a labour that has gone wrong).

With DD four years ago I was in hosp for four days but a neighbour who had a section in the summer was home in two!! I never had any probs recovering from section (but didn't have a four year old then!!). Was a bit scared to have a poo afterward as I was constipated from epidural (sorry if tmi!) but I imagine this could be the case for a vaginal birth as well esp if one had stitches.

I'm planning to ask (not sure if they'll do it) to see baby being lifted out this time as I want to get involved somehow and I have watched a few vids on internet of c sections (but DON'T watch if you think they will scare you more!!).

Just remember to go easy on yourself - expect to a feel a bit wobbly for a while and don't expect too much of yourself too soon. Its not terrible but don't expect to be over it right away or you will get stressed and disappointed. Your not supposed to lift anything heavier than the baby for at least six weeks but I felt much better before that (same with driving).

When is your op?

Good luck xx

I had a planned section and managed to breastfeed ok.
My bits of advice would be:
Buy massive pants that will go over the scar and soft strechy trousers to wear for first week or two so there isnt anything rubbing against scar.
Get up and moving as quickly as possible - I managed it by 7hrs post op - it will aid your recovery to be up and gently moving, dont be afraid of standing up straight - if you hunch over your scar it will heal too tight and be painful to stand up straight later. Your stiches will not split!
only do what you feel up to - listen to your body - i felt good and was doing most things by 2 weeks.
Stay on top of the pain - know when you are due your next load of painkillers and get them on time before the pain comes on. I was totally off all pain killers by 1 week but in hospital i made sure i asked for meds as i could feel a little bit of pain so it never got too bad and so i could carry on moving around.
I had a spinal - so just a one off injection to numb below the waist and it wasnt painful.
Dont worry about it - a positive mental attitude towards it definitely makes it all much easier.

Good luck :)

Thanks girls.
Babys breech so don't have any choice. Scared though !!

thats why i had to have mine, dont be scared - it is fine honestly!

id definitely say take it easy do not push yourself too muh at all and take advantage of having the mws around in hospital! x
