This might sound like a stupid question*, but are women allowed to keep their jewellery on (rings, bracelets etc) during labour?

* I have my reasons!

Yes, you are allowed to keep jewellery on.
The only reason a woman would be asked to remove / tape any jewellery would be if they had to go to theatre

Thanks jamtart, that's good to know.

At the risk of boring you with the details, my wife bought a wooden elephant ornament just a couple of weeks before we conceived, and has rubbed it every night before bed ever since so obviously considers it very lucky! She won’t be able to take it to hospital because it’s quite big, so I’ve bought her an elephant bracelet to wear which I’ll give her when we’re getting in the car on the big day/night in about five weeks’ time!
So glad she’ll be able to wear it!

Aww, that's really sweet and very thoughtful :clap:

This is just my personal view and everyone is different. I really wouldn't have been interested in getting jewellery at the time that we were going in the car - I had other things on my mind :lol:

If you look at the birth stories probably at least 20% of them end up in theatre and as has been said she wouldn't be allowed to wear it there. I was wearing a necklace that OH had got me to cheer me up when pregnant and I wasn't that happy that it had to be removed. I only cared so much as I had been in labour for 55 hours and was being taken to theatre but if it was something that had been given to me for comfort and luck in labour it would have really upset me to take it off.

It's a lovely gift so I think you should give it at a time that will be appreciated. I'd either say when she is feeling fat and rubbish because she's so pregnant and feels like a whale (OH did this and it cheered me up everytime I caught sight of it :D ) or after she has had baby (by after I don't mean straight away I mean after she's showered and rested and feels a bit human again).

LMAO very optimistic arent you?? heehee Though I know what you mean! OH son went into hospital (and didnt die) but had all his clothes and his shoes stolen!? :talkhand:

Fair point Kalia - and the plan is definitely open to revision! If things are nice and calm then I think I'll give it to her, but if not then I'll think twice.

However - I know how much that elephant means to her so I think it'll give her a nice boost ahead of labour. But what do I know? I'm just a bloke! :lol: :lol:

Had a little smile at this - my OH refers to giving birth as "the baby popping out" as if it would be the easiest thing in the world.

I was very touched though after we went down to the ward, when things were calm, and he gave me the little teddy I had been sleeping with (to get my smell on it so it could go in the moses basket) to watch over us that night. I had never thought to pack it.

Hun I would have loved OH to give me something special at any point during my labours! And I think tbh it would mean that bit more to her!

i think thats a really sweet idea...

as for jewellry going missing or being stolen, please dont let it make you think that ALL nurses etc are thieves - this one certainly isnt & i cant thin of anyone i work with that would even think of it.

i was wearing earrings, nose stud, finger rings and plastic beads bracelets when i was in labour and they all stayed on. i think u only have to remove them if u have a c-section. x
