My little pudding, Jessica Katie Burren was born at 17.10 on Monday 18th February. She weighed 7lb 1oz - quite small considering that she was 10 days late. She is absolutely grogeous!
The birth went really well up until the last hour. The contractions started at 4am but I managed to sleep between them until 7am. Got up washed my hair to look nice for the photos (and to try to keep my mind of the pain) and then took Harry the dog for a walk. The walk really did get things going so I got in the bath when I got back whilst waiting for the midwife. My husband filled the birth pool ready for our home birth but when I got out of the bath my waters broke and there was meconium (baby poo!) there which can be a sign that the baby is distressed. Midwife called an ambulance at 4.30pm but in the meantime baby was coming and I began to push. The ambulance arrived and we made a quick dash to the hospital where Jessica was born half hour later.
We had to stay in overnight at the hospital because of the meconium to check Jess was ok. She was quite sicky the first day and wasn't
interested in feeding - they wouldn't let us leave until she'd fed so we had to stay another night, but we perservered and now she's a proper guzzler. Back home now which is great - hospitals are the pits especially when you don't get any sleep because there are eight other crying babies on the ward, it only takes one to set them all off.
Dad is very proud and I hardly get a look in apart from at night when he's obviously asleep. She really looks like him, I can't believe it but I think it was a clever ploy to get him wrapped around her little finger. I'm really enjoying being a new mum!
Best wishes
