Has anyone had or considered having IVF in Europe? Any pros and cons be gratefully received and read :) x

This isn't something I would consider. I think any cost saving on treatment would be wiped out by flights, accomodatio, time of worketc. Add on to that the stres of being away from family and being somewhere unknown.

I have only known one person to go abroad but that was for very specialised treatment

Hi mufffy, I am going to Spain for IVF this year, whilst I can't give you any great feedback as yet, I am going to Spain as I will be having egg donation, there is no waiting lists, the egg donors have no parental rights (unlike the uk) they are considered one of the top countries for IVF, they done any talks at the IVF Show in London last year, and it does work out slightly cheaper

My consultant I am going through in Spain seems very nice and understanding, have great reviews too

Have you looked into it much???

No I just came across the idea of it tonight, I have 2 free goes on NHS and if that don't work then will have to self fund. not sure I would be able to afford it so was just wondering if its cheaper in Europe. X

I'm going to the Dogus fertility centre in cyprus in June. I can't give you any feedback on treatment but so far the communication has been fab and I feel confident about the centre. They have a package with a hotel including all transfers and travel. My friend went there on a donor egg cycle (we are going for icsi) and she now has triplets :-)

Hi Always trying, what gives you the impression that egg donors have parental rights in this country? I'm about to donate and I won't have any rights. I won't even be allowed to know who my recipient is. The child can contact me when it's 18, but only if the parents have told them they're from donor eggs.

Also, there's no waiting lists in the clinic I'm in. In fact, the donors are a waiting list, as there's more donors than recipients.

I don't know about prices though, I know to be a recipient the cycle is more expensive than normal IVF.

Thanks for the info, if you don't mind me asking how much is it costing and could I have a website address please? Thanks x

This is there website. It is 3350 euros for icsi, which includes all treatment out there, 5 nights half board in a 4* hotel, transfers to/from airport and hotel to clinic. You then need to add on a private scan in the uk around cd 5/6 (to ensure you are on the right dosage of meds or if they need to be changed prior to flying over), flights, ivf insurance (about £95), any extra night hotel you want, meds you need in UK (shop around for best price in UK), meds you need in Cyprus and post treatment (you get these out there as they are much cheaper), lunch and drinks plus any other spending money.

They do icsi for everyone as it gives a better fertilisation rate and you can have 3 or 4 embryos put back (hence the much better success rates they offer).

The only negative I have found is they use a different protocol for freezing embryos which doesn't seem very successful.

Every clinic I have looked at has positive and negative reviews, most negative reviews are from people it hasn't been successful for. The comms I have had with this clinic have been fab and as my friend used it I feel much more confident.

My advice would be to contact a few and see how you feel, I also sent my cd3 blood results off, what happen in last ivf cycle and my history and asked each clinic how thy would treat me etc.

I got sone info that in the uk the donors have the right to know who their eggs go to and can ask for updates etc, I also called and asked about waiting lists (going through Oxford) and was told there was a 2 year waiting list

No, we can't find out the recipient at all. We can ask if they have conceived, and can find out if they had a live birth, but no more than that. That's the only updates we get and then only if we ask. I'll never find out about the children from my donated eggs unless the child decides to contact me when they're 18.

Waiting lists vary massively from clinic to clinic, but there are many now with no or little waiting list for recipients.

Muffy, there's some clinics in Norway and the Czech Republic that people use. If you want more information about clinics abroad, there's a forum called fertility friends which has a huge international section and also lots of info on ivfin general.

My doctor that followed me during pregnancy works in a fertility clinic too (in haugesund Norway) that I must say has more clients from uk than Norwegian ones apparently. So that's sth that British people frequently use apparently. No idea of prices or anything though it should come up if you google fertility clinic haugesund

Hello everyone

Please help xx

Yes dogus can do straight ivf (no donors) and you can have 4 embyros put back. Also, serum in athans and a clinic in Spain have very good results, but I have no personal experience of these.

Cyprus seems to have gotten hugely popular. I keep hearing about Dunya IVF

Hi, Ladies)

Please, could you give me some information about IVF treatment in Europe? Which clinic was successful for you? How many rounds did you have?
We are leaving in Spain and we can`t afford treatment here. Almost 3 months ago we got a consultation from the biotex`s experts but we didn’t like the atmosphere there. The lines to the doctor`s office really long. People in Biotexcom are everywhere. I understand that 30k euros for 5 IVFs are a good price. But I want to be calm during the treatment. So, please give me some advice.

Thanks, everyone)

Hi Lolalo, IVF clinics in Spain usually have one of the best results in Europe and offer top notch treatments. If you want to find cheaper treatment, IVF clinics in Czech or Poland might be an option. I had first time success with Invicta and have been happy with them.
