I'm 29 weeks pregnant and since last night I have developed very itchy ankles and legs and at times arms too. Thought I had been bitten by a mosquito but can't see any bites or anything. Anyone know what this could be or suffering from it?

I dont want to alarm you, If you have persistent itching please contact your mw and tell her. Its a symptom of Obstetric Cholestasis.. There's a pinned post about it if you want to read more

The community midwives go home at 5pm, is it something that warrants a phone call to the oncall midwife?

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has replied, I appreciate it. Well I phoned, and she seemed to think it is due to the heat, but if the itching doesn't get better or notice any changes in movement to call back. Oh damn, I didn't ask how long I should leave it before phoning back if the itching doesn't get better, how long would you all give it?

Honestly I'd phone again in office hours and ask for a blood test.

So tomorrow, would you actually mention it could be OC cos I didn't, just told her where I was itching. She asked if the soles of my feet and palms of hands were itching and when I said no that's when she didn't seem too concerned and put it down to heat. If you ladies feel I should follow it up tomorrow, I will, do you think seeing a gp for a blood test would be better? X x

Might be yeah. I had OC in my first pregnancy and it started in my arms and legs, it was detected when I was admitted to hospital for other reasons

Thanks chase, I'm panicking now as this itching is not settling, my arms and tops of hands are itching too! I will try to get in with the gp tomorrow and if no luck I'll phone midwife again. is it a well known condition amongst professionals or do I need to say the words test me for OC? X x

Well, I'm pleased to say my itching has completely gone today, maybe the midwife was right and is a heat thing as I have been sweating an awful lot lately due to this unbearable weather and now it looks as though my skin has a little eczema on it. I shall keep an eye on it though and get in touch with midwife if I get worried at all. Thank you everyone for your help. X x
