My birth plan was pretty straight forward I was due 03/11/2013 but was booked in for elective section on 30/10/13.
I started to get pains on the 16/10/13 and thought nothing of it just a few niggles as had done loads the day before, anyway husband decided to time the pains as not letting up, they were around 4-5 mins apart and lasting 30-60 secs, me and husband were shocked as we stupidly just assumed everything would run smoothly for section date, the pains got worse by late afternoon on the 16th so decided to go in and get checked, I was only 1cm so they gave me paracetamol and codeine and admitted me to antenatal ward as they thought they would have to bring section forward to the next day.
The next day the consultant advised that as I was not in labour and they would not section me early as I had a section booked, she also advised for me to go home and if the pains continue to come back in and be monitored.
I was happy to go home as my other daughter was being passed from pillar to post! The pains continued right through to the 19th oct and they got closer together, they finally got to 2-3 mins apart and were 60-90 seconds long, I was in so much pain I was convinced I was gonna do this naturally!
I was advised by midwife to go in again to be checked, shock I was still 1cm! They admitted me again as the monitor was showing my regular contractions. That night they gave me paracetamol, codeine and pethadine (this really hurt!) I managed all of 2 hours sleep in 20 minute bursts.
The midwife checked me again in the morning and I was only 1-2cms dilated so went and phoned the consultant, this consultant was so rude and wanted to send me home as I was being silly and not in labour as I was only 1-2cms dilated. At this point I felt awful and like I had no pain threshold at all. Midwife gutted in and said actually she has been in pain all night has not slept and as you can see from the monitor contractions are regular, this made me feel a little better as I felt like the consultant thought I was making it up. Consultant had been on all night so decided to pass me over to the day team to see what they wanted to do with me (felt terrible again so bloody patronising!).
The day team consultant came in at 10:30am and saw the monitor and said right c section straight away as we can't leave you contracting if they are not dilating your cervix! Finally someone who believed me.
I was taken down to theatre straight away and as this was my 2nd section it took a little bit longer than the first time around, after a little bit of pushing and pulling sensation my beautiful daughter Isla was born @ 11:23am Sunday 20/10/2013 weighing a perfect 7lb 3oz.
Me my husband are on a such a high at the moment, not even the thought of the rude consultant can take the smile of my face! My other daughter is so happy yo be a big sister and is having lots of kisses and cuddles with her little sister!
Thanks for reading sorry it was a long one! Well done for getting through it if you did!
