I've made an apple sponge cake for pudding tonight, and without really thinking I sprinkled in some mixed spices which includes nutmeg. The 4 year old is allergic to nuts and tree nuts, but where does nutmeg come from?! Sorry for the stupid question. I found this online:

"Nutmeg in its whole form resembles a nut but is not one. Rather nutmeg is obtained from the seeds of a tropical tree and is generally safe for those with tree nut allergy."

So I would say it's ok for her to have it, what would you guys do?

I wouldn't class it as a nut, let her try a bit but just be observant.... I am sure she will be fine x

Pretty sure nutmeg is a seed rather than a true nut iykwim. Hope all was ok x

I rubbed a bit on her hand first, as when she touched a peanut she reacted straight away, but it was fine. I gave the cake and all was fine there too.

I know it's a spice, but I have no idea where some of these things originate from! Stupid question I know but it was bothering me lol.

I'm allergic to all nuts but can eat nutmeg!
