Congratulations on being pregnant by the way!!

The midwife will be based at your doctors surgery so just make an appointment at reception. You'll need to take a wee sample on every visit (although I usually always forget  )

The first visit is your booking in appointment and its the longest one you'll have, lasts about half an hour to 45 mins. Basically all she does is gives you loads of forms/booklets and stuff and goes through all your medical history with you. You can ask her any questions you have about pregnancy too.

You'll fill your maternity notes in together and then you get them to take away with you. You'll need them at every appointment, scan etc. The first appointment is also when she'll ring the hospital and book you in for the birth so you can make sure they're gonna be able to fit you in at the time!

At ten weeks the only physical examinations she'll do are your weight (usually only get this done at first appt) and your blood pressure, as its too early to feel the uterus or hear the babys heartbeat.

At visits after that she'll probably listen for the heartbeat, feel how high your uterus is, do your blood pressure again and test your urine.

Well I think I've gone on enough for now! If you have any more questions feel free to ask :D

Thanks for that Kirsty, thats really helpful, i've got my appointment in the next couple of weeks and couldnt for the life of me remember what happened its been 10 years since i was last preggers
Thank you!

It's really normal to be tired at the early stages. I was just the same. Up till about 10 weeks then I started to feel more energetic. :)

Glad it's not just me then. I'm only 6 weeks and have been so totally knackered all the time for the last week now, don't remember being this tired on Riley, but then I was working so I guess that took my mind off it.

I had to go to bed at 9.30pm every night during - could not stay awake any longer.... when I got in and just collapse on the sofa for 1/2 hour before I could do anything

I am 12 weeks today (yipee!!) and am starting to get my energy back.

Though I totally over did it yesterday, we were rushing about all over the place. Got to 7pm and I suddenly felt really dizzy and weird, I laid down on the bed and was asleep in seconds... totally exhausted! slept for an hour, woke up, ate beans on toast, watched tv for about 1/2 hour then fell asleep on the sofa again until gone 11pm when my DH told me to go to bed!

Hi, I'm 5 1/2 weeks and I'm totally exhausted and emotional. I can hardly do a thing! Really hope this gets easier soon as I'm finding it really hard as well. I'm new to the forum and wondered if anyone knows how to post a new question? I cant work it out! Best wishes to all x Kate. javascript:emoticon('')
