Was wondering if anyone is offering food to there LO under 6months?
As my Lo Seems ready for trying a few solids, he's 5months.

yeh we are :) mhairi is now getting small puree meals and baby rice/ porridge and she is so much more settled with it. She is also eating rusks well and will even hold them and eat them herself, and she has also tried banana, like you i thought she was ready and tried it after talking to our HV.

yeah we spoke to our HV and she was really against it!! But i had already started him on the porridge and rusks, and the odd mouth full of purée food. He is never satisfied by milk and always had a very big appetite, he was a large baby when born.

We are but not essentially fully weaning but it's helped Sophie with her reflux. We've just been doing tastes and trying different veg and fruit, I don't give her rusks because the sugar content in them is huge even compared to normal biscuits we eat. From 6 months I will fully get under way with weaning but a the minute it's so much easier for her to be having her milk and then not sicking it all back up again!

I started Angel on one meal a day which was porridge for breakfast at 4.5 months, at 5.5 months she was on 2 meals a day and we've only just started her on 3 meals a day and now doing a mix of puree and BLW. My HV is great she explained that the 6 month thing the health guidelines and government are all shoving at us are unrealistic, obviously you should always speak to a professional first and since they strongly advise not to do it before 17 weeks (if you're weaning early) I wouldn't do it properly before then but you know your own baby and know whats best I'd say 5 months is fine xx

Yes I will 100% be weaning earlier than 6 months. Maybe it's because both my boys were so overdue but 6 months was too late for us. I think it's important to have an open mind and weigh up what's best for you http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12180052. I personally can't wait!

thanks for that article - its defiantly made me a little more relaxed about it.
My son gets so excited at his morning porridge feed, that i have started to introduce small evening foods aswell now! he loves it :) he is so much more settled in the evenings now.

I have - Theo has risk and milk for tea has done for a week now and loves it.

He's a big lad and breast fed only but he was showing signs of being ready and so I gave it a go. Hv wanted me to wait until 17 week but hes reaching for food and watching you eat like a hawk

I'm just doing the one a day until he gets a bit older .

Me too. I started weaning a day before leo turned 4 months. It was horrible watching him stare at us eating. Now we've upped It to 2 meals because he always wants more. And with rusks we use sugar free ones. Hv nearly blew her top at us the time before last so when we Went last She was all like remember no solids till 26 weeks and we all like Oh yes lol I personally think these people that have done the research haven't been around people 24 hours a day. How do They know They haven't lied on the test and ate crap which is Why here obese or have diabetes rather than being weaned too early I mean If It's 20 year old research every single 20 year old eats What they want...and even older people

I will as I heard it helps with reflux, going to drag it out a bit first with hungry baby milk, will prob do it 4 1/2 to 5 months!! I was weaned at 4 months and I have no allergies or anything so not too worried!! Also its going to be a teaspoon full of baby rice not a vindaloo!! Lol!!

is anyone making their own foods yet or are you just buying them in from the shops?
i've bought them from boots so far - just to find out roughly what foods he likes and on payday im off to buy a blender for him. He seems at the min to only like the sweet ones :( apple and pear is his fave!! I like it too lol :)

I remember Charlie loved apple and pear! I'll do both buy some and blend some or just mash it with a fork, we're not starting just yet obviously but its worth planning.

Yeah I rarely give her jar stuff. I just boil broccoli, carrots, parsnips, sweet potato etc etc and blend it xx

I make everything, put it in the steamer and it's so easy :) I use the handy freezer pots from asda for storing food in the freezer

We had to start at four months. Because lily had poor nutrition due too her cf I fed her puréed fruits and veg to start and kept it simple at first gradually introducing new feeds . They freeze well and it's easy to make big batches at a time .

We started at 4 months and now at almost 7 months she gets 2 x full meals per day (mashed) and lots of finger food throughout the day

I will Thomas was weaned early and James will be too he drains 9oz bottles now also will be weaning for his reflux and trying to get him off his gaviscon I hate him having it he's has a life time to have meds xxx

I have given Dylan a few finger foods as I want to do BLW but I'm waiting until he is 5 months before starting properly. I've spoken to women at my NCT group who have done BLW and they let the babies tell them when they were ready, which was the baby grabbing food from the plate which Dylan has been doing (its the reason hes had some food already!). I'm going to be making as much of his food myself if I can x

I was all for waiting until 6 months but I have to say I'm beginning to wonder whether I might start early. Ive read studies that argue early is better & studies that say you should wait, it just seems like no one really knows what's best! Friends keep telling me they started with a little bit of food at 4 months & it helped to settle babies. Non of them waited until 6 & they are all telling me not to wait! Isaac is 4 months on Friday & is so unsettled at the moment & sleeping badly again. I might wait a couple more weeks & then try him with a bit of baby rice. He's always been a guzzler & has tripled his birth weight now, making up for being a tiny 5lb baby I think, but sure he'd love a bit of food!
