Has anyone had an intralipid infusion for IVF? It involves a nurse coming round to my house and putting a drip in my arm for at least 2 hours! Sounds really scary.

I have my first on 5 jan so will let you know, I'm off to London for it x

Wow, that's even more full-on! Are you pregnant though?

No unfortunately not pregnant yet, about to start ivf number 4, with immune protocol. I'm doing 2 intralipids prior to egg transfer, one on egg transfer and then every 2 weeks if a positive test up until 12 weeks.
Are you paying private for the intralipids?

I had them with my successful cycle hon. They are fine, nothing to worry about.

They put a really small plastic cannula in the back if your hand, or in your arm then pop the infusion through.

xxx

Thanks Mishi, that sounds ok.
Sorry RAFMrs your previous signature had a pregnancy ticker on.
Yes we are paying privately as I am over 40. (I wasn't when we first started TTC though!) It isn't too much extra added to the normal IVF drugs which are about £900 anyway! What about you?

No probs blueflower, I took the last year out to get my head straight and sort some health problems after my last ectopic and forgot to update my signature.

We are paying privately too, had our first go on the nhs and the rest we have paid. This time my stimm meds came to £1350 lid intralipids and all meds after collection, it is costing us about 10 thousand per cycle!

I looked at having healthcare at home to my intralipids but that was £270 whereas a clinic in London is £103 and with train fares etc it would still be much cheaper....
I start my steroids on Friday, 1st intralipids next Monday and then endo scratch next Thursday, busy busy lol!

Sounds as if you are having similar stuff to me, I will watch out for your posts! When do you start stims?

Yes I thought we look to be on similar protocols. My day 1 is 16th Jan, so start stimms on 17th.
What dosage stimms are you on?

225 of Merional and 50 of Gonal F. What about you? I start at the end of Jan but have to take the pill for about 3 weeks before Down Regulating so egg collection won't be till the beginning of March!

I'm on the short protocol, been on the pill for 3 months to get my cycles sorted and then I go straight into Stimms, I'm on 450 menopur so a really high dose. I'm a bit nervous it's too high but must trust the clinic. I should have collection on 28 Jan and hoping to go for a 5 day blasto transfer as my eggs are normally good on day 3 then go downhill to day 5, so I want to wait and get the better ones on day 5 put back.

Mine seem to deteriorate quickly too. When I got 17 eggs my colleague said "what are you going to do with 17 eggs?!" She had no idea they wouldn't make it. This time we are going for quality rather than quantity.
Yours sounds quite quick!

Hello,
Just thought I would let you know I had my first intralipid yesterday, it was a really long day as I was on the train for over 3 hours but all went fine.
Make sure you use the loo prior to having it done cause once your in the chair you don't move lol. It took 1 hour 45 mins plus putting needle in, taking out etc. it made me really thirsty while it was happening and the rest of the day so ensure you have some water by your chair. But that was it, so simple, I just read my book while it was happening and felt totally fine throughout and afterwards.
It will be so much nicer even in your own home as I was knocked by the time I got back from London.

Endo scratch is Thursday, why don't I think that will be as relaxing........

Thanks, that's really helpful! Where did the needle go in? Was it a canula? Did the nurse wait with you? I was wondering if when they do it at your house you just watch TV together, haha!

The needle went in my arm, but my veins are really difficult, yes it was a cannula. I had a nurse in the room at all times. In your own home I'm guessing you would just watch tv and chat etc. once all the infusion has gone through the nurse then puts another 2 saline infusions through (just a small amount of saline each time) to ensure you get all the intralipid mixture and the saline runs clear.

Oh ok! I've got the bags of fluid at home plus the tube and some massive syringes!

And I assume it was hooked up to a stand? I assume the nurse will bring all that here!
