Finally got the info from the hospital/midwife. So I'm booked to see midwife at my GP which isn't local (moved 20 miles away but don't want to change GP) on Monday 29th December. That's not fantastic as I off Xmas week so need to book a half day as they say appointment is approx 1 hour. I also have to fill in a questionnaire which asks quite a lot about me e.g. my occupation, DH's name, his occupation, have I been married before, am I married and if so when! Talk about being bloody nosey!

I also have the date for my scan which is scheduled for 9:15 on Wednesday 14th January. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the hospital so I don't know how I'm going to have a full bladder and not pee myself on the way in!

DH and I have been discussing how I'm going to get all this leave and we're thinking I may need to tell my boss. Hubby and I work together so we both need the same time off which is probably going to be quite obvious. The thing is one guy on my team is going for an interview, a second guy has been off sick more than he's been in and he's only been in the company for 10 months and that leaves 3 including me who will be going on maternity. I know that the guy who has his interview will be telling the boss exactly that next week as his first interview was cancelled. The question is ..... is it too soon to tell work (only 8 weeks today) or should I get in and break the news to my boss before the guy with the interview does?

Employers are obliged to give you time off for pregnancy related appoinments etc, but not your partner. Chances are your partners time off will be unpaid if he takes it IIRC.

You should also for H&S reasons inform your employer you are PG so s/he can make sure steps are taken if need be to ensure a safer working environment for you. Maternity leave is something you can discuss later with him but telling him you are PG is safer as they will then be ok with you taking time off for appointments.

Also you can sip water while going to your scan and get there 10 minutes early and sip some more. You only need to drink about 500mls or so. I finished mine only about 5 minutes before my scan. Sipped it over half an hour beforehand.

Ahhhhhh so I could leave the house with an empty bladder then take a bottle or two with me. Good idea thank you!

I told my employer early on for H&S reasons and i were falling asleep at my desk

At my midwife apointment she asked for my name then put me down as having a 'partner' then asked DH for his name (so obviously we have same sir name as we are married) then asked us if we are blood related :rotfl: :rotfl:

She also asked us about our jobs and houseing situation so i think all of them are the same.

MY DH came with me to the scans, but never to my midwife appointments........there has never been any need for him to come along!!

I made the mistake of drinking a pint of water before I left for the hospital (hospital is 20 mins away) and was so damn uncomfortable, in the end the sonographer asked me to go and pee as she needed to press so hard.

For the 20 week scan I took a bottle of water in the car and supped some on the way.......and was fine!

Definitely think the drink in the car is the way to go.

I told my boss straight away when I got pregnant last month (mainly because I had to tell someone else when I couldnt go in for an x-ray and didnt want her to find out that way!) - which was the best thing I could have done because she firstly said that meant she could be more lenient with sick days etc and also I was able to tell her about the m/c and she gave me time off.

I will tell her about this one too when I see her this week.

I think it would be better that your boss finds out from you rather than someone else, and hopefully then you can have paid leave to go to your appointments instead of using up all your holiday! You can always play the 'it's very early still' card.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I'm hoping he'll be nice about it but I'm braced for a non-happy response. The biggest thing for me at the minute is for him to tell the other guys not to eat hot food in our office at lunchtime as the smell is making me feel sick. It's only one guy who does it but the smell of ribs or pasta bake all afternoon makes me queasy. I don't mind sandwiches or toast but food from a greasy spoon isn't a great smell when combined with that same guys BO.

Fingers crossed the boss won't send me down to Dublin for training now as I don't think 3 days a week for a couple of months whilst pregnant would be a great idea. I'll let you know how I get on but I'm not expecting a hug and a fanfare!

Good luck hun.

That guy is making me feel sick just from your description!!!! :puke:

Well I told my boss yesterday and he had a big smile on his face! This is the same guy who extended my probation less than a month before my wedding. He has two kids of his own so he was sympathetic to how I'm feeling i.e. tired, grumpy, full of nausea. I subtly mentioned about that guy eating hot food in the office and so far so good but it could just be coincidence.

The boss has said he won't speak to anyone except his boss as they will need to work out cover for me when I go on maternity. Overall I think he was happy to have so much advance notice and he's a lot chattier and pleasant to me than he ever has been in the last year I've been there. I swear he keeps looking over to see if I'm ok. I've been told to tell people only when I'm ready but DH told his boss and he has been looking doe-eyed at me since he found out but we've always been in company so he hasn't said anything.

I'm still in a state of shock that work aren't angry. I even asked my boss if he was angry with me and he said "for gods sake no - I'm happy for you .... that is if you're happy". I told him we weren't expecting it so soon so I think he thought maybe I wasn't ready but I am.
