We have a referal for the infertility clinic as the gp called it and I'm trying to get bloods done first attempt was a fail as my veins didn't want to play ball so going again this week when I have oh with me so he can distract me while I get stabbed. He has his sperm analysis referal aswell. So ladies what should I expect next? What should I be prepared for with the first appointment for the infertility clinic?

I imagine the first appointment will be taking a history from you and your partner before they decide what further investigations to make if any.

They should be able to give you a lot more answers than your go for sure though, good luck XX

Thanks hun. This is the start of a totally I don't know what the hell is happening portion of a journey

You really can feel like a fish out of water!!

If your GP has organised bloods for you and sperm analysis for your OH, you will be able to get those results before you're actually seen by the hospital. In my experience, these shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to be available and it is ok to chase the GP for them. It will help manage your expectations as you will have an idea as to whether there are any initial problems. No news is generally good news though! I found it very helpful to ask for printed copies of results. We had a poor experience with NHS fertility at our first clinic and I just felt so much more informed by having results written down so I could research a bit further.

Once the fertility clinic has your results, they can discuss your next steps. This would probably be more investigations or treatment depending on what the results show.

In my area, the GP also booked an ultrasound scan before referring us to fertility. If this hasn't been mentioned, I would expect that to happen after you're seen at the hospital. Things vary a lot depending on area.

Hope that helps!

Thanks hun that helps alot we are booked in for the 4th march with the clinic other half needs to call about his sperm analysis once he gets home to book that so fingers crossed he can go for that before March lol

It'll be taking history, perhaps arranging of blood tests / semen analysis and maybe a smear test also (make sure you shave your legs!) In my experience, the clinics / hospitals will not accept GP ordered tests.

The first one is probably pretty standard across the board really. The follow up appointment where they have all your results will be more informative.

Depending where your blood tests are done, Women’s might not have access to them. You’ll need to make sure it comes under the same NHS Trust or if you’re unsure get your GP surgery to print them for you to take with you.

I think it does as they are being done at one of the health centres in liverpool but that's a good idea to have them printed off to take with me just incase
