I was induced at 12 days over, I was told that the risks increase too much after that and the placenta starts to break down. Personally waiting any longer wasn't a choice id make carrying a 10lb4oz baby. The labour was horrendous but Im having number 4 so cant have been that bad x
A lot of inductions end after days of instense but slow labour in an emergency section because the baby gets more exhausted by the stronger contractions which can go on much longer than a natural labour. This is why hospital will put you on continuous monitoring once you have been induced.
They will examine a woman before she is induced to see how favourable her cervix is and if she's already dilated a bit and other factors. These are translated into a bishop score. I think its out of 12. The higher your score the more likely your induction will kick start a good labour. Some hospitals will not induce a woman if her bishop score is low. Mine was 1 out of 12 and they really shouldn't have induced me. I didn't get to sleep for days then my babies heart started to stay slow and I had an emergency section. Really was not nice. I wasn't well and he had to be born but in hindsight, they should have taken me straight to section so I wasn't so sleep deprived after he was born.
