Inductions...

Im in york doing linguistics. Its only a maximum of 6 hours a week but next term its only 3. My oh is doing a masters and has few hours im just praying and im not religious, that next year phil and I can hold our son on our graduations which are probably the same day anyway. I agree though if I leave ill probably not get im it. Your hours aren too bad so your quite lucky x

When I had my daughter my MW wouldn't entertain the idea of doing a sweep until I was past my due date, which annoyed the hell out of me. When we talked about induction, she said we usually wait until you are at least 10 days overdue so I will try and book you in for then - but when she called the maternity unit they said they couldn't book me in until I was 13 days overdue, so I think it is ultimately up to when the hospital can fit you in as they had the final word.

Well I had my internal at 40+7 weeks which was the earliest they would do it here, I was booked in for induction at 40+10 as they couldn't do a sweep since my cervix wasn't ready at all. TBH, the first lot of gel gave me contractions but no cervix change, the second lot of gel seemed to force my body into labour in a very short time. I believe this is what made me need forceps end an episiotomy at the end as he just wasn't coping, and neither was i!

My midwife wasn't able to give me a sweep either but very embarrassingly that was to do with oh how did she put it 'my rectum was fully loaded"!!!!! I did not realise that being a bit backed up would have caused a problem, so there you go! She instructed me to go straight to the chemist and purchase some Senakot, well you can imagine the questioning that I got from them about why I wanted it etc!! They didn't believe that my midwife had told me to take it, she did say that she thought if I went to the loo it would start things off. Eventually they agreed to sell it to me but they didn't believe that I had been advised to take it!

When i had my apointment yesterday my doctor said doing a sweep at 39 weeks was a good time to start although she couldn't really carry one out she booked me in for induction Tuesday which is my due date if Ava hadn't already arrived by then because i basically told her ive had enough but i am in a little pain with my scar!
I think it depends on the area really and what their own policies are! I can't see problem if you will be 40weeks+ at all if they are willing to induce people early anyway. :)

Hopefully you will start off on your own but if not i hope they get you started some how! xxxxx

I find it strange that some midwives wont offer a sweep until late after 40 weeks. Surely if anything it can give you and the midwife an idea of whats happening down there. I know that tomorrow, yes it would be nice to see if we can spur things on, but mostly I just wont to know if my bodys in the right frame of mind to get the baby out lol.

They have offered to induce me at due date because of SPD but i'm thinking i'd rather wait and let it happen naturally too. ive been asking why they do it with some people and not others and I have found. ......
when midwife does an internal examination she will be assessing the state of your cervix and its readiness for labour, they will give you a score (Bishop score) and the higher it is the more ready it is. Having this information allows us to make an informed choice as to whether to let nature take its course or to ask for intervention. ask your midwife to explain it as im sure she'll be clearer than me but i found this really helpful and i hope you do to :)

I go back to uni on the 28th sept, and am due 23rd aug.... really praying little one comes on its due date or before... as then I'll have 5 weeks with baby as this year I'm in full 5 days a week and I'm scared of not spending time with the baby! With my first I was induced.... and this one is breech... so in a twisted way kinda hope they end up doing c section at the ECV next week as I'll have about 8 weeks with baby and will have recovered from section... rather than risking them doing it at my due date and not having the full 6 wk recovery time before I start uni again.
Melio, on a random, I'm at Herts too!

Oh btw, as far as I no, in my area they induce at about 41 weeks and offer a sweep on the due date...
Though as of next week, all natural inducing techniques start.... currys, walking, sex... my bf will be so pleased.... Assuming with the size I am now its even physically possible!

Yeah little one is due september 30th and term starts 14th october. Its just going to be a nightmare if im only just being considered for an induction bt that point and will feel completely behind as im going to struggle to keep up that term. Hats off to you for doing 5 days a week. What are yet studying? X

Social Work, this will be my second year, so will be in uni all day thurs and fri and on placement monday-wednesday. Just so anxious about not having time with the kids so I want this one out ASAP (as long as baby okay) so I can spend as much time with bump as possible.
What r u studying?
x

Yeah I just wanna have the little one asap providing its safe. When are you due? Im september 30th. Doing linguistics. Im lucky I only have minimal contact time just wanna do well bt my course and be a good mummy and wife grr. Dont do things by half x

Lol so true. I'm due august 23rd, so about 4 and a half weeks to go, but with the ECV it looks like it could come anytime between 1 week and 6 and a half if it goes late! Thats a big old gap! Just wish I knew either way. Feel so unprepared!
