I've been booked in for an induction next Wednesday, and been told I have to be on the ward before 8 the night before.

Just wondered what usually happens to your partner when labour is induced? Will OH just have to dump me there and wait for a call to say things have started? Can just picture him sleeping in the car in the car park if he's not allowed to wait with me!

Unfortunately that is probable. It is becuse not much happens initially - they'll let your OH be there during visiting hours which at most hospitals I know about is fairly generous. IF he drops you off at 8pm the night before you will probably be given the pessary very early the next morning. BY the time visiting hours start (usually around noon for partners) something may be happening.

I was on my own from 8am when OH left me as he had to go to work and wasn't allowed to stay as it wasn't visiting hours. I had the pessary administered at 9am and OH turned up again at about 5pm just as labour was starting for me. He was there until half 8 by which point I should have asked to be checked to see if I was in active labour (which I'm sure I was) silly me got hung up on the fact that my waters should break to show I was in active labour. They hadn;t gone and I hadn't had a show so didn't ask to be checked. IF I had been I'm sure OH would have been allowed to stay as it was only 2 hours later that he was rushed back to the hosp as I was pushing baby out!

Don't worry about being on your own as they will call your OH as soon as you feel you need him there- just don't make the mistake I did, demand to be checked out! I was far too polite about it all!

You may go naturally before then anyway- a week's a long time! On a positive note inductions *seem* to go better if you are at or past your due date.

It depends on your hospital. I went in to be induced at 8am and my OH stayed with me all day until I had the baby at 6.30pm. He had to leave at 11pm as it was way past visiting hours by then so that may happen if your labour doesn't start on the first day.

My Oh took me too hospital in the evening and stayed til about 10. He was back at 7.00 in the morning and not much had happened at all by then so he was there for the important bits. We hated being split up at the time bulooking back on it it was prob for the best as I got some sleep that I wouldn't have if he had stayed there.

In the hospital i was at they gave you the option for your partner to stay over but warned them that it can be a long process. Lee stayed with me throughout. I got taken in at 7pm and had LO at 14:20 the following day. He was shattered (as was I) but he had had nowhere to get a sleep. He would rather have slept on a chair (like he did though) than miss anything. Hope your OH can stay with you  and GOOD LUCK!!!! xx

Thanks girls, knew you would be able to put my mind at rest  I guess we'll just wait and see what happens, hopefully he can stay a wee while til I'm settled in on Tues night then come back early the next morning.
Suddenly made me realise how imminent labour really is when they gave me a date! Don't think it had hit me til now!
x
