Two questions....

Is it really more painful?

And how long did it take for everyone?

I am unsure if it is more painful as it was my first baby so I have nothing to compare it to but yes it was very painful and I had gas and air, diamorphine and an epidural but then my labour was only about 7 hours which isn't very long for a first labour. I think they say induction is more painful because your body has less time to build up to it and it all comes on quite quickly. Read my birth story in the new arrivals bit.

Also remember everyone is different and you may have a really quick easy labour.

Why are you being induced? I was induced as I was overdue so your induction could take longer as you re not yet at your due date.

I have no idea if its more painful or not because this was my first.
It all happened fast though after they gave me a tablet, they were expecting me to sleep untill the morning then we would get started but i had given birth by then :D

It was very painful, but that was my first so dont know any different. It was a pain in the butt to have to have a monitor on my tummy while giving birth and it made my contractions inconsistent, so I had a few problems pushing him out. But I think it differs from person to person. I think I had about 3 tablets then it kicked off slowly about 8pm and all night then and I gave birth 3pm the next day.

Try not to think about it to much samrbtson, just go with the flow chick

I hated having that monitor on while i was pushing..pissed me right off..i made sure they knew it aswell

I can't compare either, but the general feeling I got from midwives and other Mums whilst I was in hospital was that as you don't really have time to adjust to the pain because it is quick,it does feel more painful.
I had to go in on the Friday,I was given a gel on the evening, which didn't work(except for prostin pains,I really thought it had worked!)I had another on the Saturday morning which didn't even give me any pains, then on the Sunday at around 4.45pm I had my waters broke, and the pain was like there straight away. However I still managed to have a drug free birth,I wanted it totally natural, just ashame I had to be started.
It took just under four hours before I could hold my LO.

My midwife had said to me that if the gels didn't work and I had to have the drip thingy, they advise you to have epidurals because of how quick the contractions come on.
Don't worry yourself about it,you'll be fine whatever happens!

Very painful but that was the drip - my waters had broken so couldn't use anything else. Also Maddie was back to back which didn't help.

Had been in labour for a long time (about 70 hours!!) before the drip was finally administered to speed things up - after they started the drip it took about 10 hours I think. But I was really exhausted which made it harder to concentrate on breathing and relaxing!

I struggled on gas and air but the epi failed so I had to manage. The main problem was the contractions come on so strong whereas the natural contractions I'd had before built up to a peak so you managed to breathe through it, but the chemically-induced contractions come on so strong from the beginning that it sort of takes your breath away.

But I'm a wuss - I suspect others cope a lot better than I did :D.

 girl after my own heart. I ended up pulling it off towards the end.

Its got ops cholostasis, and protocol is to induce at 37 weeks.

Il be 37+1 when they start the induction process. They won't let me go over 36 hours with no decent progress, because they need to deliver baby sooner rather than later.

i just kinda wanted to get an idea how many mums went over 36 hours so i could kinda get a percentage in my head of the likelyhood of having a c section. problem is what with all ladies being different i know i can't really go by it!

Oh, one more question... how long was every one in hospital after giving birth / are their any complications associated with inductions? Ive had steriod jabs and they are happy with LO's size etc, so i don't think the fact that i am being delivered at 37 weeks should be a problem.

Its all becoming very real this last week! god knows what i will be like on sunday! HA!

The damn widwife kept trying to hold it on me because i was not having the damn straps and i kept pushing her hand off me :rotfl: :rotfl:
That has to have been the most annoying thing about giving birth :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ive had that ruddy thing on me every day since i was 28-29 weeks! Don't say it has to be on through the whole labour as well!! :wall:

Im afraid to say it was on me most of the time..they have to monitor you before they can induce to keep the drs happy and then they put it on again after :wall:
They did let me off for an hour to go to the cafe though! And they took it off while i slept although people did keep coming and going just to pop it on for a minute :wall: :wall:

oh that is going to be such a pain!

still, needs to be done i guess :)

i'm the same as other - first baby so not sure if it's more painful than natural.. althou the MW's say it is... but then child birth is painful full stop....

I had a sweep on 10th... induced on 11th... baby on 13th... I had gas and air. Tens machine. Epidural then C-section (with diamorphine and morphine). I only got to 1cm dilated.. nothing would work for me.

They like to keep the monitor on if you're induced to make sure baby doesn't get distressed with the contractions or the drugs. (I assume all methods of induction are the same but can't be sure??).

I hated having the monitor on but Maddie wasn't too happy during contractions (I had to lay on my left side!) and I realised there was no way I'd be allowed to remove it so I just had to live with it.

But they'd put a that blood pressure monitor round my arm at some point just to make me feel totally miserable and it got so tight I thought my hand was going to drop off  - I ripped that off when I was pushing (ah the small pleasures!!!).

I was taken in at 41 and a half weeks to be induced because there was no fluid left around the baby. They said I was 3cm dilated and that I had two hours to go home, get stuff and get back. When I got back they stapped one of those bloomin monitors on, gave me a gel, broke my waters (there were none) and put me on a drip to induce contractions. I had gas and air and a pethidine which wore off before pushing time. It was seriously painful (they told me it would be) but 10hrs and lots of ripping later I had my baby girl. I ended up ripping the drip and the monitor off because I had planned to move around and was pinned to a bed instead. I was one cross lady.

Must be ok tho because I'm having another in April.
