It always seems like something is going wrong for me! Don't get me wrong I love bf but it really feels like one step forward and two steps back.

I'm still using nipple shields but the tip of my left nipple has now gone a really dark (almost black) colour and it is absolute agony to feed from it. It doesn't help that she's been feeding non-stop for nearly 3 days now and I'm terrified every time she wants feeding, which is preventing my milk letting down so she's sucking harder resulting in more pain!

Can you only feed from the other side for a couple of feeds? I did that to let my nipple recover and it did in a day or so. Slather on the Lansinoh and rub in some breast milk.
Although 6 months in my nipples can still have black bits but no pain whatsoever! Xx

Yeah that's what I'm doing and it seems to be OK so far, just getting myself upset over nothing really lol I know some people can't bf at all and I'm lucky xx

Maybe massage your breast at the same time so she doesn't have to suck as hard x

If you can let her use the other one or express for 24 hours from the sore boob to let it recover a little? It's suprising how quick they can heal xx

I'm feeding her from the non-knackered one and about to have a go at expressing from it. Massaging might help as she sucks REALLY hard xx

Expressed from sore booby - took 15 mins to get 3oz woo! And didn't hurt at all will just keep doing that until it gets better xx

Expressing is a good way to give very sore boobies a break I also found these helpful:

-cabbage leaves on your boobies
-hot flannels before expressing/feeding
-hot shower/bath
-pumping extra even when you get no more out to ensure it is empty, to avoid mastitis (that REALLY hurts!!)
-paracetamol
-lansinoh
-AND RELAX!! lol!!

Feeding her out of one boob and expressing out the other worked a treat - until the one I was feeding from went black as well lmao! Time to swap lol xx
