crap!

Took Layla to be weighed today... she's gained really well. In the last 3 weeks she's jumped from 14lb 8oz to 16lb 8oz!!! I knew she had put on well but so nice to hear it confirmed.

Anyways, had a few questions for HV which I shall try and sum up as best I can in Q&A form.

Q. At the end of the month should Layla go onto follow-on milk?

A. She doesn't need to but many mum's do the switch just for piece of mind because of how they advertise it. It's your choice at the end of the day. She can stay on first milk til 1yr or you could put her onto follow-on milk.

- I asked a simple question requiring a YES/NO answer?

Q. I'm worried about Layla's decrease in milk now that she is eating up to 5 cubes of solids and 1/2 jars of puddings. Is this normal?

A. (looks at food diary I took with me). Wow, the lowest intake Layla has had is 21oz in a day. No problem at all. They should be having an average of 20oz per day. Layla really is doing great. Eating really well. Both milk and solids. And oh my, she even had savoy cabbage!!! Well done Layla!!!

- I thought babies needed up to 32oz per day???

Q. I'm a little worried about Layla "throwing herself backwards " when sat on my knee. Is this normal? |And especially so aggressively?

A. (Looks at me funny and says) Oh yeah, just something babies do.

- ok... so maybe it is normal, but no need to look at me like i'm thick, when i've gone to her for advice and answers and I'm still none the bloody wiser! :-(

Sorry for long post and thankyou for reading my waffle. :) xx

i made a thread a while back about follow on milk and after the replies from the pf ladies have decided to stay on his normal milk, cow&gate hungry.

he now has 16oz milk a day plus yogurts cheese etc and again i posted a thread about this lol and this is adequate from the replies the ladies gave me, between 15 and 20oz a day is fine i think, 32oz is a lot especially if weaning is well established, she will get what she needs from other foods, even tho milk is still très important! my lo has 8oz in the morning, and 9oz at bed, plus bits here and there mixed with porridge, rusk etc.

my lo does the same thing and arches his back, he seems so voilent lol!

hope this gives u some peace of mind!!!

when weaning is established 18-21oz of milk is what they need apparently, my LO just about hits that everyday as well as 3 large meals a day too.
Ive put him on follow on milk just for the extra vitimins and its about £1.70 cheaper as well, he takes it absolutely fine and we had no problems with the changeover, he was on hungry baby before.

aaawww, thanks girls. You've put my mind at rest again. What's confusing is that on the side of the tub it says that until 7months they should be having 5 x7oz bottles a day! I think that's what's been playing on my mind alot too.

I think, as for formula it does sound like the follow on milk would save a few pennies and I know that boots do do a 3 for 2 offer on that at times although will read through your threads Amy and make a decision then.

I would say Layla's weaning schedule is well under way. She had 3 meals a day :) xx

what formula is your lo on?? i have some money off vouchers for cow&gate follow on milk, so if you decide to put her on that id be more than happy to send them to you! i have 6 X £1 off! and if you say weaning is well underway i dont think its anything to worry about that her milk intake has dropped!

aaawww thanks Amy! That's really kind of you but she is on Aptamil... I'm sure one of the other girls might take you up on the offer though!

Also... Layla has 4 milk feeds a day at the moment. I make up her bottles... 8oz, 6oz, 6oz, and 7oz - sometimes she takes that much but sometimes she doesn't. It's touch and go. The morning 8oz and bedtime 7oz is always a full take. It's the 2 6oz bottles inbetween that she has been struggling with lately and will drink anywhere from 3-6oz.

As she is now on 3 meals a day, do you think it might be worth cutting her milk feeds down to 3 a day instead? basically cut out the midday-ish milk feed? xx

i would deffo cut down 1 bottle it sounds like she is ready. my lo used to have a bottle on waking up, mid afternoon and bed (plus night feeds) and he would only take 2 0r 3oz in the afternoon, so that one has been completely cut out and its working so much better! he has 2 bottles, 3 meals plus water and a snack & now sleeps through! =)

ah now that is a problem. Layla just will NOT take water :-( She sleeps right through 11-13 hours!!! I've been blessed on that score! But does sound like I need to cut down to 3 bottles.

So glad your LO is now sleeping through for you :)

Just out of interest, is there any specific "baby juice" or "baby squash" that I could give her to get more fluids? Or is it just a VERY WEAK use of our normal "adult" sugar free squashes and orange juice etc? xx

my lo only drinks a few sips here and there max about 2oz a day!!. i havent given him any juice yet though. hes had a dash of apple juice in water and i mean like the smallest drop ever and when we were in italy my MIL gave him a squeeze of fresh orange in it which he loved!!! i plan to stick to just water for now tho until he drinks more of it and then gove some juice! i think you can buy specific baby juices i have seen them in boots!

hey hun, about two weeks ago my LO started faffing with his two middle bottles in the day so i cut him down to three and hes been absolutely fine and we're wasting much less milk!
the guidelines on the side of the tubs are generally if your baby hasnt got weaning fully established yet, they have to go by the fact the guidelines say that babies shouldnt wean til 6 months so they are telling u what ur baby should drink at 6months if weaning hasnt began yet.

also if u do go onto follow on milk make sure u join boots parenting club! they are allowed to award advantage points for follow on milk because its 6months plus. it means u get 10 pence back for everypound u spend! so one £6.00 tub of formula will give u 60p back which u can spend on anything in store! i always save mine up til the end of the month then splurge on some nice make up bits hee hee

Yeah I really wanted to get her established on water first but she's barely even taking half an oz each day :-( will have to have a look at the baby juices! xx

aawww thanks hun. That's great news about the 3 bottles. Tomorrow I will try her on 3 bottles and see how we go. As for boots parenting club... I'm signed up to it but I believe you have to have a voucher or something they need to scan in store? I've not had that yet??? Any idea on how I go about getting this? Those points will really come in handy! xxx

Hmm i know the voucher ur on about but im sure that i was able to use the machines they have in the larger stores that u put ur boots card in to get extra offers, u can print a voucher off from there and take it to a till person and they can do it for u there and then with that. u may not know what im on about with the machines, hopefully uve seen them!

The girls have pretty much summed up your questions. With the juice though I brought Heinz baby juice and it went fizzy!! So I just give charley normal asda juice now just make sure it's no added sugar x.

Don't worry hun our HVs are sh**e too, it's shocking isn't it? I haven't got an answer yet just 'yeaaaah'. WTF lol So at least you got answers, but be rubbish tho lol

Almost bought one of those today!!! glad i didn't now lol! Would tesco apple & blackcurrant double concentrated no added sugar be ok? but literally the tiniest drop of it?
We've got some of that in the house at the moment lol!
