Me and Angel have just been for a walk into the village as we've had to stay in all day for my shopping delivery and a man to change my electric meter.
Anyway, we were both in a pretty good mood as i'd been showing her off to some people who hadn't seen her yet when these 2 old ladies stopped me. I used to work in the local Post Office so they do know me. Anyway they were chatting away as i saw 1 if them the other day and she'd been telling the other just how gorgeous she is and stuff.
Then one of the ladies said "None of my business, but i don't like seeing her in the front of the car"
Followed by the other saying "It's illegal isn't it?"
Apparently the 1st lady has a daughter who works for the fire service or something and she's seen accidents and it's not very nice. But wouldn't that be the case even if she was in the back?
Now as for as i'm aware it's not illegal. And i don't have an airbag in the front. She's in the maximum safety car seat. I've just come home feeling really gutted and like i'm a really bad mum! Like i'm not looking after her properly. I actually really want to cry.
If this is the case and she shouldn't be in the front can someone tell me. I thought lots of people did. I've seen loads of people with the baby seat in the front.

Ahhh don't worry hun, you're not a bad mum at all. I'd love to have my LO in the front seat where I can see him properly and chat to him, but my airbag doesn't disable, so I can't.

It's such a pain only being able to peer at him through a set of mirrors, especially if he starts to cry you can't just reach over and comfort him.

Little old ladies no nothing, *insert punching old lady smiley :rotfl: *

It isnt illegal, (I just asked OH who is a copper and he said it isnt)i wish i could have Caitlyn in the front with me. I have bucket seats tho and it just doesnt work so she has to go in the back

Ignore them, your doing a fab fab job!!

Oh hun it defo aint illegal to drive with her in the front of the car. I had to drive with Calleigh in the front because i couldnt physically put her seat in the back of my stupid 3dr Corsa. Sold it now looking for a 'family' car.

However i am sure i have heard it is actually safer for her to be in the back, but please dont quote me on that. Maybe someone will come along with a definate answer for you hun.

yep its not illegal.. i would have said yes you are right it is none of your business.. ur doing nothing wrong she is fine in the front xxx

my lo goes in the front and it is not illegal as i think in the mothercare book or somewhere says if in the front seat you must turn airbag off.( they wouldnt give this info if u couldnt do it) When my baby was in hospital the consultant said it would be best for carseat in the front so i can keep an eye on baby. Its so much better as i sing to him and talk to him and he doesnt keep his eyes off me,i couldnt bare him facing the other way!!

Thanks everyone. Just really upset me.
I love having her in the front. I put the music on and sing out loud and she loves it. I look crazy to other drivers but it's worth it to see her smile.
I find i'm a safe driver and i'd never do anything to put her at risk. I just felt really rotten. Pleased i picked up some ice cream on the way home now! Lol

Awww Lisa    I'm pretty sure it's fine as long as the airbag's disabled!

PLEASE ignore well meaning old ladies. My village is full of them and so far I'm a bad mother because:

1. I bottlefeed.
2. I'm too young to have a baby (yes, 28, far too young, WTF?!)
3. I give Flod a dummy.
4. I "let her shout at people" - sorry that my child likes to chat loudly!!!!!!!!

 they can bog off.

At the mo we have an old L reg Sunny with no airbags. It's just they think i served them their pensions for 4 years that they can talk to me like that. I just wanted to walk away and cry but they kept talking to me. I started inching away til they twigged. I have only ever done what's best for Angel, but sometimes things get to me then i end up handing her to OH and cry whilst telling him i'm a crap mother and i can't look after her.
I just like making her happy. We sit in the car before going anywhere and my aim is to sing and make her laugh before going anywhere!

Aww Im sorry they upset you!!
Most people put their babies in the front seat when they can!! I would if I drove! Old ladies seem to think that because they are older, they have to right to say anything they like! I tend to not listen to them much unless they are being nice!! :D haha I have selective hearing haha

Its not like you were letting her fooking drive the car.

Tell the old person to fook off. Its not illegal and its not a bad thing. I have the kids in the front sometimes (not at the same time) . I tend to keep Joe in the back though as he tries to grab the gearstick when im at junctions.

So long as she is rear facing and the airbag is switched off/removed/doesn't exist, she is fine!!!!!

I wasnt gonna put Tally in the front of my car as i've always heard that in accidents the passenger is more likely to be hurt

However she has NEVER been in the back, i always put her in the front, even if Dave is in the car with us, my car is an S reg fiesta 3 door and i've been informed that she's more likely to be hurt in the back if someone hits us, i also evaluated the fact that it's a 3 door and if i crash she may be difficult to get out if she's in the back. I like being able to reach over and rub her cheeks if she's upset and i can watch her.

Your not doing anything wrong and tbh i'd just respond by asking them if they'd read all the recent information on it etc.

If i had a 5 door new car i'd be more inclinde to put her in the back but for now she'll be in the front with me!

When Ryan was little and we used his rear facing seat he was ALWAYS in the front with me. I just disabled the passenger airbag and left it that way until we moved him into the back in a bigger seat :)
