we went for lunch with alex's mum yesterday my mil..and whwen we got preg she said we want to get something for the baby.. thinka bout what u want..

so alex and i thought about it and decided on a swing chair, as we have a cot already, bought the pram and dont need anything else that a parent would usually get..

so anyway.. she said yesterday you know when sally was pregnant with thomas (sally is her husbands son's wife) so her step daughter in law!! u got that now? lol.. i said yeah... she said.. well we said the same as we did to you.. we want to buy something for u.. so you pick what u want and get back to us.. so she came bk to them and said they had decided on a pram.. so they went shopping and got the pram.. and they want to give us the same value as what they had..

ok.. so lisa was expecting it to be about 150 quid..at the very most.. our gift that we picked came to 60 quid lol.. adn i was very greatfull for that..

so she said.. we know u have bought most of your stuff so we will give you money if thats ok.. i said no we have picked this chair we will be really greatful and happy with that.. she said no.. its not fair we will give you the same.. and its 300 quid!!

i almost chocked on my coke!! seriously.. my mouth just fell open!! i said omg.. no thats far to much.. im so shocked, she said no we want to do the same...

i dunno.. is it just me or is asking sum1 to buy a 300 quid pram really bloody cheeky! i feel completly shocked by it all tbh.. and rude.. rude to acceopt 300 quid from them!!

wow

can i pretend to be a step daughter somewhere?

Dont feel rude accepting it, they want to give it to you for your baby! Enjoy!!!

If someone told me they wanted to buy something and they were close family or friends and could afford it - I would let them - but there is no way I would ask for a 300 pound pram :shakehead:

i know.. i feel cheeky accepting it..because i would never ask for a 300 quid item.. never if i wanted a 300 quid pram i woul say ok.. we want this pram so would you like to put how much u wanted to spend towards it and we will put the rest.. but they didnt.. and it goes against my principles sorta thing...i utterly think that its wrong to expect someone to pay that lol...i think im gonna tell als mum i feel terrible about it.. i might say.. as they see charlotte as their own if they want to split it between both kids i might be able to accept it easier.. but not 300 for one.. she did say we can use it however we want.. but i jsut feel... greedy

You are not being greedy!

And because you have most stuff you need as you said it makes sense to spend it on both kids, im sure your MIL would agree!

I would say go with the flow. If people want to spend on us/the baby i am not saying no.

The more the merrier

Hun my OH's parents said they wanted to get us our pram and said to choose one, we had a look round but didnt really know what price they had in mind so werent sure. My OH's dad came home with the Mothercare catalogue and showed us the one that they thought was nicest and it was the most expensive at £299 then said they would get car seat at £89 too. We both like it so have said that we will put some money towards it but they wont have any of it bless em!

If they want to give you that money then take it, they wouldn't offer it you if they weren't more than happy to give it to you im sure. :)

wow lucky you!!! my mum and dad have offered to buy the pram but i chose one i loved for £130 and i think thats ok but £300!!! thats crazy id feel so bad

Don't feel embarrased or rude accepting such a lovely gesture. I'm sure they wouldn't have offered if they genuinly didn't want you to have it or could not afford it :)

Don't p!ss on their bonfire - accept it with thanks.

You lucky thing :)

This weekend we've been out pram shopping (well researching!) I've been testing out different prams to find the right one. My mum said right at the beginnning of the pregnancy that she wanted to buy the pram so this weekend I found a great one at £137 (in a sale) which folded down how I wanted, was light weight and had all the add-ons included so I called my mum...I was all ready to buy it and she wouldn't let me...her reason "it's too cheap!"

So I didn't buy the pram I wanted because she wasn't happy with it :( :wall:

If I'm being honest I wasn't really looking at price...I was trying to find something that had all the requirements I wanted...although I did turn my nose up at one suitable pram because it was over 300 quid and just seemed a rip off compared to the one I'd found!

If it really is what you want, go ahead and buy it :)

TBH We hardly brought anything for Dan, our families brought most of it including a £300 pram from my dad.
And I would hardly call it from 'someone', its from your OH's mother!
